I use these fire steels for both my Scout Group and also on my Bushcraft courses. They are dependable and easy to use with minimal help. I tend to show people to use the straight edge burr for striking and use the jagged end for rubbing wood / branches for tinder. I make my own steels for personal use but I always have one of these on my person for a back up.
I expected the product to be way better as it's from Decathlon. The rod needs to be scraped repeatedly to produce a moderate amount of spark. The one from Wildcraft produced quite a bigger spark with the same amount of scraping. The spark is not hot enough to catch fire at one go. I had to strike four/five times to ignite the gas oven. Also, the edge of the metal blade could've been made more user friendly by positioning it on the horizontal side instead of on the tip. The user could strike the fire far easier in that way.
