Water repellency is a fabric’s ability to shed water without absorbing it. Since it doesn’t get waterlogged, it stays light, breathable, and warm. Water repellency is achieved by applying a treatment to the fabric’s outer surface. This treatment needs to be renewed during the lifetime of the garment (every 3 washes). All Wed’ze jackets are treated for water repellency.
A fabric’s resistance to water pressure is expressed in terms of the height in mm of a water column (test based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the water pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. Fabric with a waterproof rating of 5,000 mm is resistant to the pressure exerted by an 5,000 mm column of water.
To determine whether a fabric is breathable, we test its evaporative resistance or RET (based on the ISO 11092 standard). The lower the fabric's resistance, the more sweat can escape, and the higher the fabric's breathability. For example: RET <9 = extremely breathable fabric / 9 < RET <12 = very breathable fabric / 12 < RET <20 = breathable fabric / RET >20 = little or no breathability.
What is a membrane or coated component?
The coating is like paint applied to the inside of the fabric, which makes it waterproof yet breathable. It is often less expensive than a membrane and requires a liner to protect it. A membrane is a very thin plastic film (polyurethane) that makes the material waterproof while remaining breathable. More flexible, lighter, and durable, it’s often more breathable than a coating.

This jacket was validated in a shower test under 60 L of water/m²/hour for 2 hours. This test reproduces the conditions of a rain shower in the mountains.
How do we make a garment breathable?
In addition to breathable materials, other technical features (zippers, vents, mesh) improve the overall ventilation of our Freeride ski jackets and pants. These ventilation features regulate the temperature inside the jacket and help to eliminate perspiration.

What is the RECCO system®?
All our Freeride jackets and pants are equipped with the RECCO® system.
With RECCO® technology, you can be located in the event of an avalanche. Anyone buried in the snow equipped with RECCO® reflectors can be quickly and accurately located by the emergency services using the RECCO® tracker. RECCO® reflectors are not a substitute for an avalanche beacon. RECCO® technology works as an additional safeguard, increasing the chances of being found in time.
