We perform comparative studies carried out in a thermal laboratory, in walking conditions with light winds (5 km/h or 3 mph). This is how we measure the thermal resistance of our boots. However, every individual feels the cold differently.Comfort temperature: felt slightly cold and 70% of users find the thermal sensation acceptable on their feet.
Limit temperature: felt very cold and 10% of users consider the thermal sensation acceptable on their feet.

Are my boots warm enough for my winter hikes?

Your boots have a membrane to guarantee waterproofing and breathability. A membrane is a very fine component (5 to 25 micrometres) affixed to the inside of a fabric that prevents water from entering but allows moisture to escape.

How do my boots protect me from outdoor conditions?

We made sure that your boots are waterproof by conducting laboratory tests to simulate walking with the boots half-submerged in water. We also conducted field tests to measure wear and aging. We tested 3 levels of waterproofing: 2,000 flexes (approx. 4 km/2.5 mile walk), 4,000 flexes (approx. 8 km/5 mile walk), and 8,000 flexes (approx. 16 km/10 mile walk). Your boots were tested to 4,000 flexes, which is equivalent to 8 km (5 miles) of walking.

Are my boots 100% waterproof?

A shoe’s traction depends on the number and shape of the lugs (4 mm/0.16” on this boot). The grip depends on the materials of the sole and the tread pattern, like car tires. Traction optimizes propulsion, prevents slipping when going uphill, and stabilizes the boot. 
Grip prevents slipping and skidding on smooth ground or in demanding conditions (rain, snow, and ice).

What is the difference between traction and grip?

This product was lab-tested by our engineers to ensure your total satisfaction. We tested the following elements: tear resistance of eyelets and straps, bonding, toxicology, UV resistance, abrasion resistance of outsole and upper components, and accelerated aging.

Will my boots withstand regular use over the long term?

Follow these guidelines to stay warm in the winter. Warmth: wear warm socks (ideally with a good percentage of wool).
 Breathability: choose socks based on the intensity of the hike and, to minimize moisture, make sure they’re breathable.
Boot height: the height of the sock should correspond to the height of the boot—for more protection, choose higher socks.

How do I choose the right footwear for hiking in the snow?

Water repellency is a fabric’s capacity to make water run off its surface without being absorbed. It prevents the fabric from soaking up water, keeping it lightweight, warm, and breathable. Water repellency is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. This treatment needs to be reapplied throughout the product’s lifetime. Products for this purpose (spray or liquid) are available in our stores.

How to preserve the technical qualities of the boots

Boots can become heavy through condensation and perspiration if you wear them in wet conditions.
If your boots are very wet, remove the insole and fill the upper with balls of newspaper, changing them regularly. The paper will absorb moisture and help them dry faster.
Never put the boots too close to a heat source. Leave them in a warm, dry, and ventilated place.
