How often do you hike and at what intensity?
Our products are classified based on performance and features for 3 mountain hiking levels: - Occasional: about 10 hikes per year of about 3 to 4 hours in length, covering less than 10 km (6 miles) and less than 700 m (2,296 ft.) in elevation gain. - Regular: about 20 outings per year. 4 to 6 hours, 10 to 20 km (6 to 12 miles), 700 to 1,200 m (2,296 to 3,937 ft.) of elevation gain per outing. - Intensive: more than 20 times a year. More than 6 hours, more than 20 km (12 miles), 1,200 to 2,000 m (3,937 to 6,562 ft.) of elevation gain per outing.
Grippy sole
Certified sole grip. To be certified, the boots must pass lab tests to assess their grip rate on different surfaces (smooth, rough, dry, wet). To validate these tests, we have a panel of representative testers evaluate our soles out in the mountains across 500 km (310 miles). Warning: these boots need a few kilometres of use before reaching peak grip performance.
Waterproofing test
In a lab, the boot is immersed in water to mid height while on a mechanical arm that simulates walking. We use this test to determine how long and how far the boot can go and still stay dry. This measurement is validated in the field and in the rain to ensure a consistent result.
Making waterproofing last longer
To keep feet dry, use a waterproof gaiter or mini-gaiter to protect the top of your boots and to prevent water, pebbles, and sand from getting in. Re-waterproof boots twice a year (search for “waterproofing” on our Decathlon website) to help to restore original water-repellent qualities and prevent stains on the outside.
What size should I choose?
The most important thing is to try on several sizes and styles to find the one most suited to you. You can choose one size up from your usual size so your toes won’t bump the toe box when going downhill, as long as you still have the proper support to prevent friction. Tip: keep your toenails short and, before a long descent, check that your laces are tight enough to keep your foot from sliding forward in the shoe.
Buying tips/how to try on hiking boots
Some Decathlon stores have a test trail. 1. Try on both shoes, standing up, wearing your hiking socks. 2. Tighten the laces, taking care to make sure they’re evenly tightened. 3. Check two points: - your heel doesn’t lift up before the shoe when walking uphill. - your foot doesn’t slide and your toes don’t touch the front when going downhill. 4. Try on several sizes and models. Break them in gradually to adapt them to your feet.
How to avoid blisters
Blisters generally develop when the skin is weakened by friction. To prevent blistering, we recommend the following: - Choose a shoe in your size. - Wear suitable socks. - Tie and tighten your shoes properly. - Make sure you tighten or loosen your laces accordingly, especially before starting a climb or a descent. - Wear your shoes on a short trip for the first use.
Which socks?
Waterproof boots are less breathable than non-waterproof boots. Ideally, wear mid-length socks like the MH 500, MH 520, or MH 900 Socks to wick away perspiration and reduce friction.
Optimize your shoes: replace your insoles!
The original insole in your shoes is designed to fit most feet. Changing the insole may provide: 1. Improved support, as some soles are preformed or reinforced to better support the arch of the foot. 2. More comfort, as the insoles can also provide warmth and/or cushioning. 3. Longer life, as you can restore the support and comfort of your shoes by replacing the insole each season.
Lab tests
Laboratory tests were conducted to test the following elements: attachment of eyelets and webbing, assembly, toxicology, UV resistance, sole and upper component abrasion, and accelerated ageing.
How to care for your shoes
- Leave to air dry. - Remove dry mud with a stiff brush. - Clean marks using a brush and some warm water - Leave to dry - Spray with a re-waterproofing product to restore the upper’s water resistance

I’ve had these boots for 4 years, & it’s finally time to admit I need a new pair. I purchased a $300 pair of salomon hiking boots prior to these, that fell apart in months. I purchased these as a money saver & couldn’t be more impressed with how well they have held up. I work
as a dog trainer for a living, so am constantly walking & hiking in all weather. Excellent value for the price.

I picked these up on a sale a few years ago and have worn them on hikes and walks, summer and winter. They became my favorite shoes. Now that they've grown old and I'm looking at new hikers, I'm still considering getting them again.

As some who used to hike regularly and now starting again, these are shoes are great. It took me a long time to figure out what shoes are good, these are exactly what you need, great flexibility in the toe, great grip, supports the ankle, you can replace the insole* I haven’t
yet but the insole that come with are great! The only thing I suggest is a very breathable sock, the shoes are waterproof which makes breath ability good not great. Overall 10/10 I recommend them to my friends and enjoy my hikes so much because my feet don’t hurt.

I only used these hiking shoes a handful of times. This spring, I noticed my foot was getting wet. Upon further inspection, I could see the sole of one shoe was full of small cuts - as though someone had taken a blade to them. I contacted the company, who refused to replace t
he product, even though I had owned them for less than a year, and had worn them very few times. Hiking shoes normally last me years, if not decades. I would not recommend these!
...Hello Vivian, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are sorry you are not happy with your purchase and that our warranty does not cover the waterproof issue that you encountered. Most of our hiking shoes are very sustainable, and we have less than 1% of return
overall on that product for any defect or waterproof issue. Rest assured that our products are well tested and verified, and if that would tend to happen more often, the product would be recalled and you should be advised.
