Product design Our expertise

Textile dyeing requires a lot of water but also produces waste water from the dye baths. We have chosen a mass pigmentation dyeing process (dope dyeing) for the black pants that adds the colour pigments when the yarn is manufactured, using less water and reducing our environmental impact.
The black MH500 pants use this new dyeing process, which we hope to use for other colours soon.

The inside fabric is brushed, a tried-and-tested method for retaining heat. The principle is simple: the component’s knit adds volume to trap air, offering natural insulation. This is exactly the same principle as animal fur and feathers.

Can I be sure that my pants are warm enough for winter hiking?

Water repellency is a fabric’s capacity to make water run off its surface without being absorbed. It prevents the fabric from soaking up water, keeping it lightweight, warm, and breathable. Water repellency is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. This treatment needs to be reapplied throughout the product’s lifetime (recommended after each wash). Products for this purpose (spray or liquid) are available in our stores.

What is water repellency and how can you maintain it?

In winter, it is important to protect from moisture (snow, rain) and wind, because they can significantly cool the body whether moving or at rest. The windproof and water-repellent outer fabric was designed to handle all winter conditions. We also added attachments to stop snow from getting inside.

How do my pants protect me from outdoor conditions?

Whatever your cold-weather activity, use the three-layer technique:
Layer 1: A high-tech base layer to wick moisture away from the body and keep your skin dry.
Layer 2: A fleece or sweater to provide warmth and transfer moisture outward.
Layer 3: A jacket to protect against the elements (rain, snow, and wind). 
To eliminate moisture, the whole outfit must be breathable.

How to dress properly for cold-weather hiking

We test for durability: resistance to rubbing and abrasion, colourfastness, resistance to repeated washing. All these tests were conducted on the material used in these pants.

Will your pants withstand regular use long-term?

This product is guaranteed for two years from the date shown on the sales receipt. A product covered by the warranty will be exchanged free of charge. The warranty covers product defects, excluding those resulting from normal wear and tear or improper use.

How does the material insulate you from the cold?

Two types of tests measure warmth:
- a material test 
- tests using a thermal mannequin in a thermal chamber We reproduce the temperature, wind (5 km/h), and humidity conditions encountered in the mountains during a 5 km/h hike.
These tests help us validate our design choices before field testing. 
This fleece has a comfort temperature between 7°C and 10°C (without a jacket over top).

How is warmth measured?

We make our polyester from plastic bottles, reducing the use of oil-based resources while preserving the material’s quality and performance.The white model is made from 100% recycled polyester and the grey model from 25% recycled polyester.

Why choose recycled polyester?

Textile dyeing requires a lot of water and produces wastewater from the dye baths. We use a bulk dyeing process that involves adding the colour pigments when manufacturing the thread to reduce the environmental impact. This dyeing process is used for our white and black models.

The aging of our hiking fleeces is tested to guarantee durability. We guarantee:
- resistance to wear from backpacks and moving arms to delay the appearance of pilling
- seam strength
- resistance to washing

Worn as a third layer, this padded jacket has been certified for an active comfort temperature of -5°C during a standardized test in a thermal chamber. The model is wearing a synthetic, long-sleeved T-shirt and a light fleece underneath. Effective in simulated 5 km/h wind. 
We also tested this product in static mode: the comfort temperature is 5°C in this case.

How warm is this padded jacket?

The fill power of down has 3 advantages for mountain hiking:

- Thermal insulation, because of the air trapped in the down and feathers.
Ultra-lightweight: down is lighter than synthetic fill and provides the same warmth. This saves even more weight in your backpack.
- Ultra-compressible.

The advantages of duck down and feather filling

Fill power is a measure of the down’s thermal insulation capacity and potential to trap air. It is expressed in cuin (cubic inches).
Down with higher fill power will take up more space, trap more air, and provide greater thermal insulation.With an 85% down and 15% feather filling, this jacket has a guaranteed fill power of 800 cuin or more (international standard).

Inflating power of down/feather filling

A fabric’s water repellency is its ability to make water run off its surface without being absorbed.
This prevents the fabric from absorbing water and keeps it lightweight and warm. The fabric in this down jacket is water-repellent, although we recommend you wear a waterproof jacket over top in the rain. The fabric is made water-repellent by treating its outer surface, but the treatment can deteriorate with use. 
We recommend restoring it after each wash.

Water repellency (not to be confused with waterproofing)

This washable down jacket can be worn all winter. But the less you wash it, the longer its thermal insulation and water repellency will last.
  
In short: 
1. Machine wash at 30°C with detergent specially formulated for down or technical garments. Gentle spin cycle.

2. Tumble dry with 2 or 3 tennis balls and repeat 2 or 3 times until it is completely dry.

How to care for down jackets

Once you have cleaned your padded jacket, we recommend using a water-repellent reactivator spray to preserve the hydrophobic properties of the outer fabric. This renews the fabric’s water-repellent properties and optimizes its performance throughout its life cycle.

How do I reactivate the waterproofing properties?

Snags are common when hiking in a padded jacket. Simply mend it or apply an iron-on patch to prevent the tear from getting bigger and letting the synthetic fibres escape.

The feminine cut of this jacket suits different body types. You can wear a warm layer underneath, such as a fleece jacket or light sweater. The inner lining also improves comfort. 
You can choose your usual size or one size up if you want a looser fit.

Detach the hood using the snaps. Adjust its height using an elastic cord and adjust the depth with the hook-and-loop tab at the back.

This jacket is made with 2 coated layers, including a large mesh lining. 
That means the jacket has an outer fabric and a lining. 
A coating similar to resin is applied to the inside of the fabric, making the material waterproof yet breathable. The jacket’s inner lining protects this coating.

Jacket composition

We measure a fabric’s resistance to water pressure, expressed in terms of the height of a water column in mm (based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the water pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. 
The component of this product has a waterproof rating of 5,000 mm: it can withstand the pressure exerted by a 5,000-mm column of water. This is also equivalent to 5,000 Schmerbers.
