Worn as a third layer, this padded jacket has been certified for an active comfort temperature of -5°C during a standardized test in a thermal chamber. The model is wearing a synthetic, long-sleeved T-shirt and a light fleece underneath. Effective in simulated 5 km/h wind. 
We also tested this product in static mode: the comfort temperature is 5°C in this case.

How warm is this padded jacket?

The fill power of down has 3 advantages for mountain hiking:

- Thermal insulation, because of the air trapped in the down and feathers.
Ultra-lightweight: down is lighter than synthetic fill and provides the same warmth. This saves even more weight in your backpack.
- Ultra-compressible.

The advantages of duck down and feather filling

Fill power is a measure of the down’s thermal insulation capacity and potential to trap air. It is expressed in cuin (cubic inches).
Down with higher fill power will take up more space, trap more air, and provide greater thermal insulation.With an 85% down and 15% feather filling, this jacket has a guaranteed fill power of 800 cuin or more (international standard).

Measuring the fill power of down and feather wadding

A fabric’s water repellency is its ability to make water run off its surface without being absorbed.
This prevents the fabric from absorbing water and keeps it lightweight and warm. The fabric in this down jacket is water-repellent, although we recommend you wear a waterproof jacket over top in the rain. The fabric is made water-repellent by treating its outer surface, but the treatment can deteriorate with use. 
We recommend restoring it after each wash.

Water repellency (not to be confused with waterproofing)

This washable down jacket can be worn all winter. But the less you wash it, the longer its thermal insulation and water repellency will last.
 
In short: 
1. Machine wash at 30°C with detergent specially formulated for down or technical garments. Gentle spin cycle.

2. Tumble dry with 2 or 3 tennis balls and repeat 2 or 3 times until it is completely dry.

How to care for down jackets

Once you have cleaned your padded jacket, we recommend using a water-repellent reactivator spray to preserve the hydrophobic properties of the outer fabric. This renews the fabric’s water-repellent properties and optimizes its performance throughout its life cycle.

How do I reactivate the waterproofing properties?

Snags are common when hiking in a padded jacket. Simply mend it or apply an iron-on patch to prevent the tear from getting bigger and letting the synthetic fibres escape.

Is my jacket warm enough for winter hikes?

Synthetic fleece performs like wool: warm with thermal insulation, yet still lightweight. Soft and comfortable, quick-drying and breathable.

What is the fleece material and why is it so warm?

We test for durability. For example, we verify that the fleeces do not pill, that colours do not run, and that repeated washing does not affect the fabric’s properties. The Martindale test measures a fabric’s abrasion resistance. A machine rubs a sample of the fabric on a reference surface with a weight at the end.

Is a soft, comfy material fragile?

With its wide fit and lightweight component, your fleece lets you move freely, which is essential when walking in the snow. The zippered pockets keep essentials safe and handy (e.g., tissues, lip balm, gloves, keys, and more). The hood makes this jacket ultra-warm for hiking in cold weather.

Three-season pants

The pant material contains spandex. If you are between two sizes, choose the smallest of the two. After washing, the pants may seem a little tight. However, they will loosen after use (like a pair of jeans with spandex).

Our advice for choosing your size

The fabric of these pants contains 79% organic cotton.
We began using organic cotton in 2006, a market that currently represents just 0.4% of worldwide cotton production. The cotton is grown without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. It protects biodiversity, soil fertility and reduces the risk of groundwater pollution. This is still not enough and that’s why we are working to make this product eco-designed.

Our environmental approach

Thanks to all your feedback, we have improved the concept and design of the NH 100 pants. The stretch component of this new model increases your freedom of movement. We also improved comfort (softness of cotton, width of the waistband) and drying speed (synthetic component). Finally, we also took into account your feedback on the depth of the pockets and the cut of the pants.

Bulk dyeing or dope dyeing incorporates the pigments during thread manufacture. This technique reduces the environmental impact compared to standard dyeing, which takes place once the thread has been woven into a fabric.

Bulk dyeing or “dope dyeing” incorporates the pigments during the thread manufacture. This technique reduces the environmental impact compared to standard dyeing, which takes place once the thread forms a fabric and involves more water consumption and pollution. 
Our MH 120 black and grey fleece models use the dope dyeing process, and we’re working to develop it for other colours.

This parka was developed for winter conditions such as intense cold, snow, blizzards. Insulation is provided by the thick synthetic wadding that traps air (double layer on the body and single layer at the arms).
A long inner flap beneath the zipper blocks cold air. The system is supplemented by a drawstring at the hem to make the jacket comfortable down to -20°C.

Your jacket has a waterproof material that keeps out water and wind. To stay warm in winter, you must also protect your extremities (head, hands, feet). The anti-blizzard hood’s detachable synthetic fur, wrist sleeves, and rising collar keep the cold out. The fleece-lined, high handwarmer pockets perfectly protect your hands.

How does my jacket protect me from outdoor conditions?

A coating applied to the outer fabric of your jacket makes it waterproof. The resistance of a fabric to water pressure is expressed in terms of the height in mm of a water column. The higher the water pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. A component with a waterproofing resistance of 18,000 mm resists the pressure of 18,000 mm of water. This test was carried out before washing.

How can I be sure that my jacket is 100% waterproof?

Taped main seams ensure that your jacket is waterproof. The inside seams are also sealed with waterproof tape to make them watertight and prevent water from seeping into more vulnerable areas.
A waterproofing test is conducted that replicates the conditions of a two-hour rain shower. The jacket was also field-tested in all weather conditions to make sure it’s suitable for your activities.

Water often gets in through the seams. Does my jacket have waterproof seams?

Practical, smart details: 2 hand warmer pockets, 2 outside flap pockets, 1 secure inside pocket, 2 inside mesh pockets, to keep everything handy. 
The main zipper has a long zipper pull and snap buttons as well as a thumb pass so you can open or close your jacket while keeping your hands snug in your gloves. The 2 zippers at the bottom of the jacket allow you to easily bend or sit down comfortably.
