A fabric’s waterproofing is determined by measuring its resistance to pressure exerted by a water column, measured in mm (based on the ISO 811 standard).The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. These are the waterproof characteristics of the RC 500 Rainproof Jacket: 8,000 mm before washing, 5,000 mm after 5 washes.

Fabric waterproofing

The fabric is important for the product’s waterproofing; The seams on the RC 500 Rainproof Jacket are sealed and equipped with the waterproof YKK AquaGuard® zipper.

Jacket waterproofing

To determine a fabric’s breathability, we test its evaporative resistance or RET (based on the ISO 11092 Standard). The lower its resistance, the more perspiration escapes and the more breathable it is. 
•	RET < 6: extremely breathable, suitable for intense workouts
•	RET 6 to 12: very breathable, designed for moderate exercise
•	RET 12 to 20: moderately breathable, unsuitable for exercise
•	RET > 20: little breathability, inappropriate for exercise

Fabric breathability (RET)

A membrane is a type of fine micro-perforated film (polyurethane) that makes the fabric waterproof and breathable. It is also very flexible, lighter, more durable, and more breathable than coated fabric.
The coating is applied to the fabric’s interior to make it waterproof. It costs less than a waterproof membrane and requires a protective lining.


Membrane or coating?

On wet roads, it’s very unpleasant to get covered in spray from the rear wheel. To solve this, the RC 500 Rainproof Jacket is equipped with a retractable flap at the base of the back. Discreetly fold it into the back of the jacket.
Of course, adding a fender to the rear of your bike adds even more protection against splashes.
