How warm is this padded jacket?

The fill power of down has 3 advantages for mountain hiking:

- Thermal insulation, because of the air trapped in the down and feathers.
Ultra-lightweight: down is lighter than synthetic fill and provides the same warmth. This saves even more weight in your backpack.
- Ultra-compressible.

The advantages of duck down and feather filling

Fill power is a measure of the down’s thermal insulation capacity and potential to trap air. It is expressed in cuin (cubic inches).
Down with higher fill power will take up more space, trap more air, and provide greater thermal insulation.With an 85% down and 15% feather filling, this jacket has a guaranteed fill power of 800 cuin or more (international standard).

Measuring the fill power of down and feather wadding

A fabric’s water repellency is its ability to make water run off its surface without being absorbed.
This prevents the fabric from absorbing water and keeps it lightweight and warm. The fabric in this down jacket is water-repellent, although we recommend you wear a waterproof jacket over top in the rain. The fabric is made water-repellent by treating its outer surface, but the treatment can deteriorate with use. 
We recommend restoring it after each wash.

Water repellency (not to be confused with waterproofing)

This washable down jacket can be worn all winter. But the less you wash it, the longer its thermal insulation and water repellency will last.
 
In short: 
1. Machine wash at 30°C with detergent specially formulated for down or technical garments. Gentle spin cycle.

2. Tumble dry with 2 or 3 tennis balls and repeat 2 or 3 times until it is completely dry.

How to care for down jackets

Once you have cleaned your padded jacket, we recommend using a water-repellent reactivator spray to preserve the hydrophobic properties of the outer fabric. This renews the fabric’s water-repellent properties and optimizes its performance throughout its life cycle.

How do I reactivate the waterproofing properties?

Snags are common when hiking in a padded jacket. Simply mend it or apply an iron-on patch to prevent the tear from getting bigger and letting the synthetic fibres escape.

Laboratory tests are conducted to guarantee the waterproof rating of a component. We measure a fabric’s resistance to water pressure, expressed in terms of the height of a water column in mm (based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the water pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. 
This product’s component has a 25,000-mm waterproof rating and can withstand the pressure of a 25,000-mm water column.

Component waterproofing

We conduct laboratory tests that simulate rainfall to guarantee the jacket’s waterproof rating.  
This product was validated in a shower test under 18 cm of rain for 2 hours. This test reproduces the average conditions of a mountain storm.

Water resistance (jacket)

Component breathability is measured by its thermal evaporative resistance (RET). 
This allows perspiration to escape during physical activity, preventing it from accumulating on the skin. 
The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric.

A fabric is water-repellent when water slides off its surface without being absorbed. Because the fabric doesn’t soak up water, it remains lightweight and breathable.Water repellency is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. This treatment needs to be reapplied throughout the product’s lifetime. Water repellency can be reactivated by putting the item in the dryer for 10 minutes on low heat.
You can also use the waterproof spray (ref.: 8554908).

How do my boots protect me from outdoor conditions?

Thermal comfort is a balance between warmth and breathability. Too much heat or not enough breathability lets moisture accumulate and cold set in. This membrane is designed with your activities in mind, preventing water infiltration and letting moisture escape.

We made sure that your boots are waterproof by conducting laboratory tests that simulate walking with the boots half-submerged in water. We also conducted field tests to measure wear and aging. We tested 3 levels of waterproofing: 2,000 flexes (approx. 4-km hike), 4,000 flexes (approx. 8-km hike), and 8,000 flexes (approx. 16-km hike). This boot has been tested for up to 2,000 flexes, which is equivalent to a 4-km hike.

Are my boots 100% waterproof?

A boot’s traction depends on the number and shape of treads. The grip depends on the sole materials and the tread pattern, like car tires. Traction optimizes propulsion, prevents slipping when going uphill, and stabilizes the boot. 
Grip prevents the boots from slipping and skidding on smooth ground or in demanding conditions (rain, snow, and ice).

We made sure that your boots are waterproof by conducting laboratory tests that simulate walking with the boots half-submerged in water. We also conducted field tests to measure wear and aging. Taped seams make your parka completely waterproof. The seams of a garment are made watertight by adding adhesive waterproof strips on the inside, which prevent water from getting through to vulnerable areas.
The waterproofing is verified via a test that replicates the conditions of a two-hour rain shower. Kids then tested its performance during a hike.

What does it mean that the “100% taped seams” mean?

Practical and smart details: 2 outer pockets with flaps, 1 secure inner pocket for storing essentials such as your phone, 2 mesh inner pockets to store gloves, etc. The main zipper has a cursor and the snaps have thumb loops: kids can open and close the zipper without removing their gloves.

We test for durability: resistance to rubbing and abrasion, colourfastness, resistance to repeated washing.
Washing the faux fur of the hood is not recommended. The hood can be removed before washing the jacket.
If absolutely necessary, wash the fur by hand and then air dry.

Care products: spray or liquid water-repellent treatment in the washing machine. To renew the fabric’s water-repellent properties and optimize the garment’s performance throughout its lifetime, we recommend using these products every wash.

How to preserve the technical qualities of this parka

To care for your product, we recommend closing the zippers when washing. Machine wash at 30°C. Do not use bleach. Tumble dry on medium heat. Do not iron. Do not dry clean. Always dry this garment thoroughly before storing it in a dry place away from light. Avoid using chemicals such as bleach, which could affect the garment’s colour and thermal insulation.
