This involves gradually heating up the brake pads and rotors to create an even contact surface.
Before bedding in your brakes, it’s important to do the following:
- Clean your brake rotors. If you change the pad, it’s recommended that you also change the rotors.
- Make sure you have the right equipment. Wear a helmet and fix a bike computer or bike GPS to your bike.
- Choose a safe place. Bed in your brakes on a flat, dry road with no obstacles.

Bedding in your brake pads is absolutely essential for effective breaking.

It’s important to alternate between the front and rear brakes, and to work through the following steps:
Step 1: Ride at 15 km/h and gradually brake to slow yourself to 5 km/h, 10 times in a row.
Step 2: Ride at 20 km/h and gradually brake to slow yourself to 5 km/h, 10 times in a row.
Step 3: Ride at 25 km/h and gradually brake to slow yourself to 5 km/h, 10 times in a row.
Between each step, release the brakes and ride a few dozen metres to let the rotor and caliper cool down.

The bedding-in process involves gradually braking several times in a row from increasing speeds.

- Use one brake at a time so that you don’t overheat the pads.
- Ride on a flat surface to avoid jolts.
- Don’t brake abruptly.
- Be patient. Bedding in can take up to 30 minutes.

- If you notice a rainbow mark on your rotors or if your braking isn’t very effective, this means that your brakes are “glazed”. If this happens, please visit a Decathlon workshop.

Bike Brakes

Check the information indicated on the sidewall of the tire (diameter and width).
For example, 26 x 2.20 means your tire is 26" in diameter and 2.20" wide.
The dimensions in mm (ETRTO international unit) are also on the tire sidewall. For example, 50-559 means that the tire is 50-mm wide with a 559 mm inner diameter (approx. 26 x 2.00).

How to choose an inner tube

Remove the old inner tube using Btwin tire levers.

Removing an inner tube

Check the condition of your tire and replace it if necessary. 
Make sure no objects are lodged in the tire.
Check the condition of your tire rim strip. A rim strip that’s even slightly bent can cause punctures.
Check that your rim doesn’t have any other issues that could damage your inner tube.

Checks to carry out before installing an inner tube

Watch our video before you start.
Pre-inflate the inner tube slightly to avoid pinching.
Make sure you’re using the correct valve for your rim and then insert it.
Put the entire inner tube inside the tire so that it fits inside the rim.
Take care not to pinch the inner tube when installing it.

Installing the inner tube

Start installing the tire at the valve.
Finish installing the tire across from the valve to avoid pinching the inner tube.
Never install your tire with a tool or a tire lever, as you risk pinching or puncturing the inner tube.

Installing the tire

Carefully inflate your tire to the pressure recommended by the manufacturer (visible on the tire sidewall in PSI or bars: 1 bar = 14.51 PSI).
Regularly check that your tire is in the correct position as you inflate it.

To avoid punctures from pinching and for the best tire performance, we recommend checking your tires and, if necessary, inflating them to the suggested pressure before every ride.
