Our goal is to reduce textile waste during production, starting with design. A pattern template—not just a drawing—is used to design and make products. 
Pattern development is key to the design process. To generate as little waste as possible, the pieces of the product fit together perfectly, like a puzzle, on the pattern template.

What does minimal waste mean?

Between 15% and 20% of textiles used for clothing is discarded. Wasted textiles mean wasted natural resources. It’s vital to tackle the problem at the source by maximizing our use of textiles, minimizing waste, and generating as little fabric waste during the production process as possible.
We reduced waste from 19% to 9%.

Why adopt a minimal waste design approach?

We choose safe fabrics, inks, and accessories (buttons, drawstrings, rhinestones, etc.) that cannot be swallowed. Our fabrics aren’t toxic, so they are safe if your child puts them in their mouth. We consider your child’s safety when designing every aspect of our products. These little details make all the difference.

A fabric’s resistance is measured by the height of a water column in mm that can be supported by the fabric (test based on the ISO 1092 standard). The higher the water pressure, the more waterproof the fabric.This jacket can withstand 5,000 mm of water (equivalent to a rain shower lasting 1 hour).
To approve this, the MH 500 Waterproof Hiking Jacket was placed in a shower for one hour with a volume of 60 L of water/m²/h. This test reproduces average rain shower conditions in the mountains.


How is the water resistance of the MH 500 Waterproof Hiking Jacket measured?

Fabric breathability is measured by its thermal evaporative resistance (RET). 
This allows perspiration to escape during physical activity, preventing it from accumulating on the skin. 
The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric.

How breathable is the MH 500 Waterproof Hiking Jacket?

Resistance to wear and abrasion test: for example, we test our fleeces in the lab to ensure they do not pill. Colourfastness test: we check colourfastness to ensure colours don’t bleed if they come into contact with saliva. Aging test: Verifies that repeated washing does not alter the fabric’s properties, performance, thickness, or appearance.

How is the resistance of the MH 500 Waterproof Hiking Jacket tested?

1/ Machine wash (30°C to 40°C): fasten hook-and-loop tabs and zippers. Use gentle detergent. Wash jackets and pants inside out. Loosen straps and elastics. 
2/ Avoid bunching the garment in the washing machine as this can damage it. 
3/ Do not mix garment types and colours. 
4/ Do not use bleach or fabric softener.
5/ Choose a long rinse and gentle spin cycle.
6/ Hang to dry or run it through the dryer (minimum temperature, minimum duration).

Which shoes are best for your child?

It’s simple to check the size: Remove the insole and place it on the floor. Help your child put their foot on the insole, heel aligned with the heel of the insole. We selected an insulating lining and filling to keep your kids' feet nice and warm like fur-lined boots.
These warm boots have been tested in an external laboratory according to a thermal resistance protocol compared to other Decathlon baby boots.

How can I be sure that my child’s feet will stay warm?

The boot’s vamp (low, thermoplastic part) is snowproof. To make the entire boot waterproof, pull the bottom of the snowsuit or ski pants over the top of the boot. A hook under the sole helps you to position the elastic gaiter on the pants or snowsuit to provide a good seal and keep the snow out.

How can I be sure that my child’s feet will stay dry in the snow?

These boots were designed to fit a child wearing thick ski socks without compressing the foot and therefore encouraging thermal protection.

How to choose the right size

These winter boots have been specially designed so that they are extremely easy to put on your child. 
The uppers in sizes 3C/3.5C and 4.5C/5C are open on both sides and can be fully turned back to provide a wide opening for your child’s foot. 
Sizes 6C/7C and 7.5C/8.5C are open on one side. A strap on top of the upper lets your little one try and put the boot on all on their own.

Why do these boots have large openings and straps on top?

Traction depends on the number and size of lugs (3 mm on this boot). The grip depends on the sole materials and the tread pattern, like car tires. Traction optimizes propulsion, prevents slipping when going uphill, and stabilizes the boots.
Grip prevents the boots from slipping and skidding on smooth ground or in difficult conditions (rain, snow, ice).

What is the difference between traction and grip?

The fleece component is designed to trap air in the space formed by its texture. This air acts as a natural insulator, keeping the body warm. It is the brushing of the knit fabric that traps the air.

Water repellency is a fabric’s capacity to make water run off its surface without being absorbed. It prevents the fabric from soaking up water, keeping it lightweight, warm, and breathable. Component water resistance

How do I preserve the technical components of my pants?

Whatever your cold-weather activity, use the three-layer technique:
Layer 1: A high-tech base layer to wick moisture away from the body and keep your skin dry.
 Layer 2: A fleece jacket or sweater to provide warmth and transfer moisture outward.
 Layer 3: A jacket to protect against the elements (rain, snow, and wind). 
To eliminate moisture, the whole outfit must be breathable.
