We use repeated lab tests to verify the highest durability standards: an abrasion- and friction-resistance test to ensure that the fleece does not pill, a colourfastness test to check that colours do not bleed, and an aging test to ensure that repeated washing does not alter the properties of the fabric or its behaviour, thickness, or appearance.

Component durability

To assess the breathability of the fabric or the evaporative resistance, we measure RET (test based on the ISO 11092 standard). The lower the fabric’s resistance, the more perspiration evaporates, and the more breathable the fabric. For example: RET < 9 = extremely breathable fabric. 9 < RET < 12 = very breathable fabric. 12 < RET < 20 = breathable fabric. RET > 20 = little or no breathability.

The ball fibre filling is a good alternative to feathers:

Waterproof

We use 90% recycled wadding for this padded jacket.
The filling for the lining has three essential qualities for hiking:
- good thermal insulation capacity, even when wet
- breathability and is recommended for dynamic activity (down is recommended for static activity)
- good compressibility: padding is highly compressible

This functional feature is obtained by applying a hydrophobic treatment to the fabric. This process means that water rolls off the fabric without being absorbed. As a result, the garment remains lightweight, breathable, and warm.

This product was made with a coating. A coating is like a paint applied to the inside of the fabric to make it waterproof while remaining breathable. 
However, it requires a liner to protect it.

This is the fabric’s ability to let perspiration escape during physical activity and prevent it from accumulating on the skin.

Practical details

Resistance to wear and abrasion test: for example, we test our fleeces in the lab to ensure they do not pill. Colour fastness test: we check colour fastness to ensure colours don’t bleed if they come into contact with saliva. Aging test: repeated washing should not alter the fabric’s properties, performance, thickness, or appearance.

1/ Machine wash (30°C): Fasten rip-tabs and use mild detergent. Wash jackets and pants inside out. This parka was developed for winter conditions such as cold, snow, and blizzards. The thick, synthetic padding (double layer on the body) traps air and keeps your child warm. A long inner flap beneath the zipper blocks cold air. According to our laboratory test at -23°C, 70% of kids experienced thermal comfort.
However, every individual feels the cold differently.

How will this product keep my child warm?

This parka was designed with a waterproof outer material that prevents water and wind from getting inside. To stay warm in winter, it is important to protect the head, hands, and feet. The anti-blizzard hood with removable synthetic fur, wrist cuffs, and stand-up collar all keep out the cold.

How does the parka keep my child warm and dry?

The jacket’s waterproof properties aren’t just from the components: the assembly technique also makes a difference.
Whether the seams are heat-bonded or sewn watertight, the overall waterproof properties of your jacket are measured with a shower test developed by Decathlon that simulates rain of varying intensity.
This waterproof jacket protects you from a shower, i.e., 12 cm of rain in 2 hours.

Product waterproofing

The waterproofing of a fabric is measured in Schmerbers or mm of water (pressure of a water column). The higher this number, the more waterproof the fabric. 
This product has a waterproof component resistant to 5,000 mm or Schmerbers before washing.

Component waterproofing

Taped seams make your parka completely waterproof. The seams of a garment are made watertight by adding adhesive waterproof strips on the inside, which prevent water from getting through to vulnerable areas.
The waterproofing is verified via a test that replicates the conditions of a two-hour rain shower. Kids then tested its performance during a hike.

What does it mean that the “100% taped seams” mean?

Practical and smart details: 2 outer pockets with flaps, 1 secure inner pocket for storing essentials such as your phone, 2 mesh inner pockets to store gloves, etc. The main zipper has a cursor and the snaps have thumb loops: kids can open and close the zipper without removing their gloves.

A practical jacket with smart details

We test for durability: resistance to rubbing and abrasion, colourfastness, resistance to repeated washing.
Washing the faux fur of the hood is not recommended. The hood can be removed before washing the jacket.
If absolutely necessary, wash the fur by hand and then air dry.

Can I wash this jacket regularly without damaging it?

Whatever your cold-weather activity, use the three-layer technique:
Layer 1: A high-tech base layer to wick moisture away from the body and keep your skin dry.
Layer 2: A fleece or sweater to provide warmth and transfer moisture outward.
Layer 3: A jacket to protect against the elements (rain, snow, and wind). 
To eliminate moisture, the whole outfit must be breathable.

How do I choose the right clothing for hiking in the snow?

Care products: spray or liquid water-repellent treatment in the washing machine. To renew the fabric’s water-repellent properties and optimize the garment’s performance throughout its lifetime, we recommend using these products every wash.

How to preserve the technical qualities of this parka

To care for your product, we recommend closing the zippers when washing. Machine wash at 30°C. Do not use bleach. Tumble dry on medium heat. Do not iron. Do not dry clean. Always dry this garment thoroughly before storing it in a dry place away from light. Avoid using chemicals such as bleach, which could affect the garment’s colour and thermal insulation.

The feminine cut of this jacket suits different body types. You can wear a warm layer underneath, such as a fleece jacket or light sweater. The interior lining also improves comfort. 
You can choose your usual size or one size up if you want a looser fit.

Detach the hood using snaps. Adjust the height using an elastic cord and adjust the depth with the hook and loop tab at the back.

This jacket is made with 2 coated layers, including a large mesh lining. 
That means the jacket has an outer fabric and a lining. 
A coating similar to resin is applied to the inside of the fabric, making the material waterproof yet breathable. The jacket’s inner lining protects this coating.
