Are these boots warm enough for winter hikes?

We perform comparative studies carried out in a thermal laboratory, in walking conditions with light winds (5 km/h or 3 mph). This is how we measure the thermal resistance of our boots. However, every individual feels the cold differently.Comfort temperature: Felt slightly cold and 70% of users experienced thermal comfort in the boots. Limit temperature: Felt extremely cold and 10% of users experienced thermal comfort in the boots.

How do these boots protect from outdoor conditions?

A 100% waterproof mid-height inner shoe protects the part of the foot most in contact with the snow. The textile upper is water-repellent and warm for effective protection against cold and snow.The seams that join the inner shoe and the upper are not waterproof.In very deep snow, water can get in through the seams over time, resulting in wet feet.

What is the difference between traction and grip?

A shoe’s traction depends on tread number and shape (3.5 mm/0.14” on this boot). The grip depends on the materials of the sole and the tread pattern, like car tires. Traction optimizes propulsion, prevents slipping when going uphill, and stabilizes the boot. Grip prevents the boot from slipping and skidding on smooth ground or in demanding conditions (rain, snow, and ice).

How do I choose the right footwear for hiking in the snow?

To stay warm when hiking in the winter, we recommend the following: Warmth: wear warm socks (ideally with a good percentage of wool). Breathability: choose socks based on the intensity of the hike and, to minimize moisture, make sure they’re breathable. Boot height: the height of the sock should correspond to the height of the boot—for more protection, choose higher socks.

How to preserve the technical qualities of the boots

Water repellency is a fabric’s capacity to make water run off its surface without being absorbed. It prevents the fabric from soaking up water, keeping it lightweight, warm, and breathable. Water repellency is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. This treatment needs to be reapplied over the product’s lifetime. Products for this purpose (spray or liquid) are available in our stores.

How to dry the inside of your boots

Boots can get wet from condensation and perspiration. If your boots are very wet, remove the insole, fill the upper with balls of newspaper, and change the newspaper regularly. The paper will absorb the moisture and dry them faster. Never put the boots too close to a heat source. Leave them in a warm, dry, and ventilated place.
