Why wax cross-country skis?

Cross-country skiing is a sport that involves gliding, so the base of your skis must be properly maintained for optimum performance. Waxing reduces grip and improves glide, optimizing ski base compatibility with snow characteristics (air temperature, snow quality, etc.). You can perform your own ski maintenance or make an appointment with a professional at your workshop.

When should I wax my skis?

We recommend waxing the underside of new skis for optimal glide. Several consecutive waxes are best to build up a proper base. Your skis need to be waxed regularly, depending on how long and how often you ski, as well as snow abrasion during recent outings. Don’t wait until the base turns a whitish colour before waxing your skis!

How to choose a wax

PS (formerly CH) = traditional fluoride-free hydrocarbon-based wax Recommended for ski maintenance and regular cross-country skiing. ---- HS (formerly LF) = this higher performance wax has hydrophobic properties that repel the layer of water between the base and the snow. It can be used alone or as a base.

How to wax your skis

Before applying the wax, prepare the base of your skis with the bronze brush. Apply the wax evenly to the base with the waxing iron (usually the tail and tip, or over the full length for skating), then remove the excess wax from the groove and the ski by scraping the base with the plastic scraper. Lastly, brush the base with the nylon brush.
