How does this mat encourage your child’s psychomotor development?

It gives children sensory redundancy to boost their proprioception. Proprioception is necessary to meet major psychomotor development milestones. This mat allows children to safely do these movements. This mat helps your child develop their psychomotor skills. This product has been approved by a physiotherapist.

Main stages of dynamic balance development

Children under the age of 4 learn how to control their body and move in any given direction by slowly waddling around. At 4 years old, children can walk, putting one foot in front of the other, on a path measuring at least a foot and a half wide. At age 6, children can walk heel to toe on a beam that is at least as wide as their feet.

Psychomotor development:

Children’s psychomotor development depends on a combination of genetics, motor skills, and maturity. A product can impact a child’s psychomotor development if it supports their motor skills. There are several aspects to motor skills: the body map, dynamic coordination, balance, hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, and time and spatial awareness.

Body schema

The body map refers to a child’s perception of their body, which allows them to refine their movements and develop self-awareness. The more a child moves, the more they refine their body map, and the more accurately they’re able to move.

Hand-eye coordination

Hand-eye coordination includes actions required for aiming with part or all of your body: Youngsters develop this skill by mapping a path and then using their hands and feet to aim large objects at large targets. As their coordination develops, the objects and targets get smaller and smaller until they have excellent finger isolation: playing the piano, threading beads on a string, writing.

Time and spatial awareness

Time and space awareness includes everything that involves a child’s perception of themselves in time (before/after, rhythmic activity, day/night, seasons, etc.) and space (in front/behind, on/under, right/left, etc.)

Awesome mat for littles learning how to move

Love this mat. Its colours are neutral enough to not offend your decor. We kept it folded in half as we live in a small space. It’s fairly grippy if you’re barefoot. Not so much in socks. That being said, I do wish the material had a little more grip on at least one side. Used

this mat for our baby to explore on. Easy to clean. Stored compactly which is huge over most competitors. If you have a pet, their nails will puncture it. It’s foam after all. Good value for money.

Buy it!

I am still using this with a 30 month old and bought it for my child when they were 6 months. We have taken it on trips as it fold really well, used it for cushioning and to warm on a concrete floor, for potty training as its wipeable, as a the top of a fort, as a picnic rug,

a slide for cars, a bed head, a den and a cave as the folds are so useful to make different shapes. The pattern with the wiggles if great for driving cars up and down and the plain side is lovely if you're sick of the room looking like a riot of toys primary colours and want something contemporary and clean. I have got so much use out of it and its was also one of the cheapest items of its kind.
