Are these boots warm enough for winter hikes?

A warm, insulated lining effectively protects you from the cold in temperatures as low as -26°C. Lab- and field-tested with hikers. We approved the comfort temperature both at rest and while walking, as this can vary significantly: -3°C when stationary and -12°C when walking. We also considered how men and women feel the cold differently.

How do these boots protect from outdoor conditions?

These boots have a membrane to guarantee waterproofing and breathability. A membrane is a very fine component (5 to 25 micrometres) on the inside of a fabric that prevents water from entering but allows moisture to escape.

Are my boots 100% waterproof?

We make sure that your boots are waterproof by conducting lab tests to simulate walking with the boots half-submerged in water. We also conduct field tests to measure wear and aging.

Advantages of leather

Leather is ultra-comfortable, durable, and flexible. This material is waterproof and naturally breathable. Warm in the winter and cool in the mid-season, leather naturally regulates the temperature inside the boots. Clean your boots with a soft brush to extend their life.

Prolong waterproofing

A waterproof spray is recommended to waterproof leather and protect it from stains (like the waterproof spray on the Decathlon website). Do not grease. You can use a maintenance brush: search for the trekking boot maintenance brush on the Decathlon website.

What is the difference between traction and grip?

Traction depends on the number and shape of the lugs. The grip depends on the materials of the sole and the tread pattern, like car tires. Traction optimizes propulsion, prevents slipping when going uphill, and stabilizes the boot. Grip prevents the boot from slipping and skidding on smooth ground or in demanding conditions (rain, snow, and ice).

Will my boots withstand regular use over the long term?

This product was lab-tested by our engineers to ensure your total satisfaction. We tested the following elements: tear resistance of eyelets and straps, bonding, toxicology, abrasion resistance of outsole and upper components, and accelerated aging.

How do I choose the right footwear for hiking in the snow?

To stay warm when hiking in the winter, we recommend the following principles: Warmth: wear warm socks (ideally with a good percentage of wool). Breathability: choose socks based on the intensity of the hike and, to minimize moisture, make sure they’re breathable. Boot height: the height of the sock should correspond to the height of the boot—for more protection, choose higher socks.
