Waterproof properties
We measure the fabric resistance to water pressure in mm of water column (based on the JIS standard). The higher the water pressure a fabric can withstand, the more waterproof it is. Waterproofing ratings: Component resistant to 5,000 mm Schmerber water pressure - the average pressure exerted by water during a rainfall. These pants were tested in 2 h of moderate rain (60 L/m²/h).
Care instructions
Rinse with clean water after use. Store in a dry place. Wash as infrequently as possible to protect the water-repellent treatment. Wash inside out, pocket zipped, on the synthetics cycle (30°C–40°C) with regular detergent. Do not use fabric conditioner. Do not overload your machine. Run extra rinse. Line dry. To restore its water repellency, tumble dry inside out on the synthetics cycle for 10–15 min.
Breathability
Breathability To find out if a fabric is breathable, we measure its resistance to evaporative heat transfer (RET). The lower the resistance, the better a fabric’s ability to let the body’s perspiration escape. - RET < 9 = extremely breathable - RET 9–12 = very breathable - RET 12–20 = breathable - RET > 20 = not very or not at all breathable

Excellent value waterproof overtrousers

For the last few years I'd been wearing a pair of proper big-brand sailing salopettes, but this summer the waterproof lining peeled away from the outer layer of the trouser and they were 0% waterproof. I bought these the day before rejoining my ship just as a super cheap layer
to get me through my next month on board before I could buy a another proper set. My expectations were vastly exceeded! These were perfectly waterproof during my watches stood in the rain. I bought a size up and the waist sits high enough I didn't need to worry about the slipping down past my jacket when I was leaning over aloft, and they weren't restrictive. The material is rather thin and I'm afraid they wouldn't stand up to much wear & tear, but honest for £15 they've been worth it. I also didn't love the cargo pocket - it felt a bit tight to get my phone, etc in and out while wearing them, but honestly I've had that problem with all salopettes. Well done Decathlon!
