Are these boots warm enough for winter hikes?

We perform comparative studies carried out in a thermal laboratory, in walking conditions with light winds (5 km/h or 3 mph). This is how we measure the thermal resistance of our boots. However, every individual feels the cold differently. Comfort temperature: Felt slightly cold and 70% of users experienced thermal comfort in the boots. Limit temperature: Felt extremely cold and 10% of users found experienced thermal comfort in the boots.

How do these boots protect from outdoor conditions?

Your boots have a membrane to guarantee waterproofing and breathability. A membrane is a very fine component (5 to 25 micrometres) affixed to the inside of a fabric that prevents water from entering but allows moisture to escape.

Are my boots 100% waterproof?

We made sure that your boots are waterproof by conducting laboratory tests to simulate walking with the boots half-submerged in water. We also conducted field tests to measure wear and aging. We tested 3 levels of waterproofing: 2,000 flexes (approx. 4 km/2.5 mile walk), 4,000 flexes (approx. 8 km/5 mile walk) and 8,000 flexes (approx. 16 km/10 mile walk). Your boots were tested to 4,000 flexes, which is equivalent to 8 km (5 miles) of walking.

What is the difference between traction and grip?

The boots’ traction depends on the number and shape of the lugs (4 mm/0.16” on this boot). The grip depends on the materials of the sole and the tread pattern, like car tires. Traction optimizes propulsion, prevents slipping when going uphill, and stabilizes the boot. Grip prevents the boot from slipping and skidding on smooth ground or in demanding conditions (rain, snow, and ice).

Will my boots withstand regular use over the long term?

This product was lab-tested by our engineers to ensure your total satisfaction. We tested the following elements: tear resistance of eyelets and straps, bonding, toxicology, UV resistance, abrasion resistance of outsole and upper components, and accelerated aging.

How do I choose the right footwear for hiking in the snow?

Follow these principles for your winter activities: Warmth: wear warm socks (ideally with a good percentage of wool). Breathability: choose socks based on the intensity of the hike and, to minimize moisture, make sure they’re breathable. Boot height: the height of the sock should correspond to the height of the boot—for more protection, choose higher socks.

How to maintain the technical qualities

Water repellency is a fabric’s capacity to make water run off its surface without being absorbed. It prevents the fabric from soaking up water, keeping it lightweight, warm, and breathable. Water repellency is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. This treatment needs to be reapplied throughout the product’s lifetime. Products for this purpose (spray or liquid) are available in our stores.

How to dry the inside of your boots

Boots can become heavy through condensation and perspiration if you wear them in wet conditions. If your boots are very wet, remove the insole and fill the upper with balls of newspaper, changing them regularly. The paper will absorb the moisture and help them dry faster. Never put the boots too close to a heat source. Leave them in a warm, dry, and ventilated place.
