Are these boots warm enough for winter hikes?

The warm, insulated lining protects your feet from the cold in temperatures as low as -31°C. Lab and field tested with hikers. We approved the comfort temperature both at rest and while walking, as this can vary significantly: -8°C when stationary and -17°C when moving. We also considered how men and women feel the cold differently.

How do these boots protect from outdoor conditions?

These boots have a membrane to guarantee waterproofing and breathability. A membrane is a very fine component (5 to 25 micrometres) on the inside of a fabric that prevents water from entering but allows moisture to escape.

Are my boots 100% waterproof?

We made sure that your boots are waterproof by conducting lab tests to simulate walking with the boots half-submerged in water. We also conducted field tests to measure wear and aging.

What is the difference between traction and grip?

Traction depends on the number and shape of the lugs. The grip depends on the materials of the sole and the tread pattern, like car tires. Traction optimizes propulsion, prevents slipping when going uphill, and stabilizes the boot. Grip prevents the boot from slipping and skidding on smooth ground or in demanding conditions (rain, snow, and ice).

How much grip and traction does this boot provide?

The Snow Contact soles are designed for maximum comfort and grip for hiking on snow. The 4 mm (0.14“) lugs are spaced strategically for optimal grip when hiking in snow. The lugs are designed to grip hard snow and evacuate excess water to avoid slipping.

What are the advantages of Snow Contact technology?

The material and tread of Snow Contact soles are specifically designed for optimal grip and traction. Snow Contact soles are more effective on snow than traditional soles. When walking on ice, adding anti-slip crampons to your boots is the only way to ensure optimum safety.

Will my boots withstand regular use over the long term?

This product was lab-tested by our engineers to ensure your total satisfaction. We check the following: tear resistance of eyelets and straps, bonding, toxicology, abrasion resistance of outsole and upper components, and accelerated aging.

How do I choose the right footwear for hiking in the snow?

To stay warm when hiking in the winter, we recommend the following: Warmth: wear warm socks (ideally with a good percentage of wool). Breathability: choose socks based on the intensity of the hike and, to minimize moisture, make sure they’re breathable. Boot height: the height of the sock should correspond to the height of the boot—for more protection, choose higher socks.

How to preserve the technical qualities of the boots

Water repellency is a fabric’s capacity to make water run off its surface without being absorbed. The fabric does not soak up water and stays light, breathable, and warm. Water repellency is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. This treatment needs to be reapplied over the product’s lifetime. Products for this purpose (spray or liquid) are available in our stores.

How to dry the inside of your boots

Boots can get wet from condensation and perspiration. If your boots are very wet, remove the insole, fill the upper with balls of newspaper, and change the newspaper regularly. The paper will absorb the moisture and dry them faster. Never put the boots too close to a heat source. Leave them in a warm, dry and ventilated place.
