Moderate tension (18–23 kg) offers more comfort, spin, and power, whereas
high tension (> 23 kg) provides better control and accuracy. However, high tension can lead to tendinitis.

Which tension is best?

For monofilament strings, Decathlon recommends a tension range of 19–22 kg. Monofilament strings are not suitable for children aged 15 and under, as they may cause injury. They’re best for players who break strings within 10 hours of play, since the strings quickly lose their tension.

About monofilaments

For multifilament strings, Decathlon recommends a maximum tension of 25 kg. These strings are recommended for young players and those prone to tendinitis. These strings maintain tension for longer.


About multifilament strings

Racquet performance depends on the frame and strings. That’s why good string maintenance is key.
If you break your strings frequently, change them as soon as they break.
If you rarely or never break your strings, change them as many times per year as you play per week. E.g.: If you play once a week, change your strings once a year. If you play three times a week, change your strings three times a year.

When should you change your strings?

Tightening dead strings won’t boost performance. A loosely strung racquet will let you play a more relaxed game, giving you a more powerful, effortless swing. Over time, strings can wear down without breaking. They lose their elasticity and other properties. The gauge (or diameter) also affects play. Thinner strings generate more power and spin, whereas a larger gauge will give you stiffer strings and have more impact on the body.
