Design

Designed and validated on real hikes: Mont Blanc in France, Atlas Mountains in Morocco, and Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Durability was tested during a 550-km (341.7-mile) test mission in the Canaries and the Pyrenees (GR10).

Why did we work so hard on durability?

You go hiking to get out in nature. You may need to carry your belongings for several days. That’s why you need a reliable pole. We selected wider tubes in the highest-grade aluminum. We secured the pushpin area with internal reinforcement. Compression test results (pressure on the pole axis) show that this pole can support 560 N (~56 kg/123 lb) per pole.

Why make it compact?

Before you begin your hike, you might have to travel by bus or plane. You’ll also have to carry all your equipment in your bag. Compact poles are easy to pack. When collapsed, this pole can fit in the side pocket of a hiking backpack.

How was the handle designed?

We chose EVA foam, a soft material that’s resistant to perspiration and doesn’t tear easily. We added a long grip below the handle for a lower hold when walking uphill and on banking terrain. The knob is the most comfortable in the product line, with its elongated round shape and soft material. It is easily gripped from above. The wrist strap is not too thick and has fewer seams, to prevent blisters.

How to adjust your poles to the correct length

Using the pole: Extend the pole until the pushpin clicks. Refer to the instructions attached to the pole. To adjust the length: While holding the grip, your arm should bend at a 90-degree angle. - Open the outer lever. - Slide the tube to the desired length. - Close the lever. Never go over the Stop line to avoid breaking the pole.

Directions for use

This hiking pole is designed to help you balance, propel yourself forward, and reduce impact on your arms and legs. To be on the safe side, check before you set off and at regular intervals that your pole is locked in place by simulating heavy bumps. If you notice that your pole keeps sliding out of place, the locking mechanism turn ring needs adjusting. Open the lever and turn the knob a quarter to a half turn. Do not attach it to your backpack, as this can be hazardous in the event of a storm.

Care instructions

Proper maintenance of your pole will ensure that it functions optimally and that it lasts longer. After use, if water has penetrated the pole, remove the strands and allow them to dry. If necessary, clean the dust or mud with water or a dry brush. Once dry, you can reassemble the strands. Do not oil or grease the mechanisms.

Why is the pole sold individually?

Decathlon sells hiking and trekking poles individually. This is because they are used in different ways. Some people prefer to use only one pole. If someone uses a pair and one pole breaks, they can replace one broken pole without buying a new pair.
