It is important to differentiate between visible and invisible light (partially UV) 

All our glasses protect from 100% of UV rays. 
Even with a transparent lens, you will be protected; however, you may get glare. This is where the categories (0 to 4) come in.
Category 0 lets nearly all light through, while category 4, on the other hand, is very dark (ideal for high altitudes)

Protection

These glasses have category 1-3 photochromic lenses, which means they change category depending on the weather.

The lenses tint in about 30 seconds (45 seconds to deactivate).
The perceived brightness does not change much even when the outside brightness level changes. 
For example, when cycling, the change in tint is almost imperceptible.

A cold temperature will activate (tint) the lens more quickly.

Photochromic lenses.

These high-contrast road cycling lenses have been specially designed to enhance the most common colours you see on your bike rides. This gives blues, greens, and greys more contrast so that you can see more details.
Tests showed that cyclists greatly preferred these lenses over classic category 3 lenses (with a grey or brown base)

HD lens

To keep your lenses in good condition and thus benefit from good vision quality, it is important to adhere to the following rules:

- always store your glasses in a protective case, particularly during transport
- never wipe your glasses when dry; always wash in soapy water first
- never wipe your glasses on your T-shirt or cycling jersey
- wipe/wash your lenses with a microfibre cloth only

How to care for your glasses

These glasses come with several nose pieces.
There are two goals, the most obvious one being to adapt the frame to your face.
The second goal is less widely-known, but just as interesting: adjusting the nosepiece also adjusts the ventilation. The tighter the nose, the "higher" the glasses sit on the face. This will give you better ventilation, which can be useful in summer.

Nosepiece choice

The XC Race II have a removable lower frame. Beyond the style component, which is a personal choice, this again allows you to adjust the ventilation based on your activity. When the lower part is removed, there is greater airflow inside the frame.

A product’s ability to protect against the cold depends on its thermal resistance and breathability. The higher the thermal resistance, the more body heat it retains while you ride.
During intense rides, perspiration on your hands can make them feel cold. We therefore recommend exercising at a moderate intensity in cold weather.

Water repellency refers to a fabric’s ability to make water bead off its surface without being absorbed. The fabric soaks up little or no moisture, dries more quickly, and remains light. Water repellency also helps keep the outer surface cleaner.

A fabric’s waterproofing is determined by measuring its resistance to pressure exerted by a water column, measured in mm (based on the ISO 811 standard).The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. A membrane is a type of fine micro-perforated film (polyurethane) that makes the fabric waterproof and breathable. It is also very flexible, lighter, more durable, and more breathable than coated fabric.
The coating is applied to the fabric’s interior to make it waterproof. It costs less than a waterproof membrane and requires a protective lining.


Membrane or coating?

On wet roads, it’s very unpleasant to get covered in spray from the rear wheel. To solve this, the RC 500 Rainproof Jacket is equipped with a retractable flap at the base of the back. Discreetly fold it into the back of the jacket.
Of course, adding a fender to the rear of your bike adds even more protection against splashes.

Waterproofing is a fabric’s capacity to prevent water from penetrating the garment. A fabric’s water resistance is expressed in mm (test based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. Material with a waterproof rating of 2,000 mm resists the pressure exerted by 2,000 mm of water (which roughly corresponds to a 2-hour rain shower).
Our Ultralight Cycling Jacket is waterproof up to 2,000 mm.

What does the UV protection do?  
It protects your eyes from UV rays.
UV radiation is present in winter and summer, in sunny and cloudy weather, and it can be harmful to your eyes and eye contours.
The lenses are made of polycarbonate mixed with UV protection against the harmful rays of the sun (UVA and UVB).

Tinted lens classification based on ISO 12312-1 standard: 
- Category 1: lens with a light tint for reduced sunlight. 
- Category 2: lens with a medium tint for average sunlight.
