The resistance of a fabric is measured by the height of a water column in mm that can be supported by the fabric (test based on the ISO 1092 standard).The higher the water pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. A component with an impermeability of 5,000 mm will therefore withstand the pressure exerted by 5,000 mm of water (which corresponds roughly to a 1-hour downpour). Waterproofing is expressed in Schmerber units (for example: 5,000 Schmerbers). This number applies before washing.

Component waterproofing

A coating applied to the fabric makes it waterproof and windproof. Technically, a waterproof fabric is also windproof. Protection from the wind is critical, as wind can chill the body during physical activity.

Windproof effect

Component breathability is measured by its thermal evaporative resistance (RET). 
This allows perspiration to escape during physical activity, preventing it from accumulating on the skin. 
The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric.

This ice compact 20 L isothermal backpack was designed for your food and drink while you're hiking. Ideal when you want a bit of extra freedom.

Compact

This product was lab-tested according to the EN 12546-2 standard, at an ambient temperature of 32°C, without ice packs, when half full. It took 7 hours to go from 5°C (food temperature straight from the fridge) to 15°C.
With a 1.2 kg (2.6 lb) ice pack, the time was 10 hours under the same conditions.

There’s a system inside for keeping your bottles upright during transport.

There’s a separate zipper pocket on the outside so you can keep your belongings dry and away from food in the cooler (wallet, keys, map, camera, etc.). 
The cooler also has 2 outside mesh pockets.

This backpack is not waterproof inside. The bottom doesn’t hold in water. 
Sometimes condensation may seep through the seams. However, this rarely happens and won’t damage your food.

Waterproofing

You can put ice packs in your bag to keep your food cold for longer.
When packing your bag, we recommend placing food that needs to stay cold at the bottom of the bag.To increase the cooler’s thermal performance, we recommend only opening it when necessary and closing it quickly.

Directions for use

The volume of each backpack is measured using a standardized method: the main compartment and all the pockets are filled with little balls. These balls are then emptied into a graduated container to get the equivalent volume in litres.

How comfortable is this backpack?

This backpack has a large compartment for your essentials, two zip pockets, one with an inner pocket for your valuables. A stretchy mesh pocket on the side also fits your water bottle or umbrella.

What is its storage capacity?

This backpack is water repellent. In light rain, water will roll off without penetrating it. However, it is not completely waterproof. If the rain goes on too long or is too heavy, water will seep through. For extra protection, choose our 10-20 L rain cover (ref. 8772113).
