You can adjust your backpack as follows: 1 - Loosen all the straps (shoulder straps, belt, load adjuster straps). 2 - Put the backpack on. 3 - Tighten the shoulder straps. 4 - Adjust the load adjuster straps as needed.
How to pack your NH Arpenaz 500 20 L Hiking Backpack
Place heavy equipment at the bottom. Pack your clothes around these items. Keep your waterproof jacket and/or fleece where you can access it quickly. Place small frequently used items in the pockets (sunscreen, map, glasses, etc.). Put your water bladder in the compartment provided along the back and water bottles in the external pockets.

Our son bought this first, and we got one right away. Now friends want it too! This is a very smartly designed backpack and very comfortable and light too. Love the insulated section at the bottom and the extra bonus of the (rather hidden) water resistant sheet for when yo
u need to sit on a damp surface. What surprised me the most is that the insulated section at the bottom can be unzipped in order to expand the internal capacity of the backpack! So when you don't need the insulated feature, you can increase the backpack's capacity. I'm not sure how much I will use this feature but it's good to know it's there.
