If you’re new to yoga, you think that your gym mat or camping mat will do the trick. But it’s not the best idea! A yoga mat should meet certain criteria for grip and thickness. This is so you can practice comfortably without risk of injury during dynamic sequences and poses.

Is a yoga mat really necessary for yoga?

Triangle pose, plow pose, half-candle... During your yoga sessions, you’ll do various poses. So it’s vital that your mat helps you avoid injury so you can progress without worrying about hurting yourself. Your mat needs to be grippy. 
Our yoga mat has a polyurethane film on top for extra grip. Your hands won’t slip and you’ll be able to do a series of movements.

In yoga, the thickness of the mat is important. It should be thick enough to protect your joints and help you balance during the sequences. But it shouldn’t be too thick either, so you can feel your connection to the ground. The recommended thickness for yoga mats is between 1.5 and 8 mm. At 4 mm thick, this yoga mat is right in the middle of the pack.

Why is 4 mm the ideal thickness?

With a thickness of 4 mm, this yoga mat is ideal for dynamic yoga. Vinyasa, Ashtanga, and Bikram are types of yoga with high-intensity sequences that are performed quickly. For dynamic yoga, we recommend a mat of up to 5 mm to ensure good grip and stability, which are essential for maintaining balance.

What types of yoga can you do with the 4 mm Grip+ Yoga Mat?

Doing yoga properly requires deep concentration, adequate breathing, and above all, rigorous precision in the alignment of the body. Inaccurate alignment can lead to pain or even injury.
To help beginners in particular position their bodies correctly, we added alignment lines to our yoga mats.

Dimensions and weight

Over time, dust, lotion, sweat, and other residue damage the grip layer of polyurethane mats. That’s why it’s essential to clean them regularly.
Clean your mat with warm soapy water and a microfibre cloth. If the dirt is really embedded, you can leave it to soak for a few minutes. Then let it air dry before rolling it up again. Avoid exposing the mat to the sun.
