Insulation keeps hands warm. This polyester-based synthetic component traps more or less air according to its thickness. The thicker the insulation, the more air it contains and the warmer it is. These mittens have 200 g/m² thick insulation.

Will my child stay warm when playing in the snow?

Use the clip system to attach the mittens to the sleeves of their Decathlon ski suit or jacket for 1-5 year-olds.
The fun design of this accessory encourages children to attach the mittens to their sleeves all on their own! The colours combine to create animal characters.

How do I make sure my child doesn’t lose their mittens?

If you have don't have a jacket or a ski suit, no worries! An elastic cord inside the mittens keeps them on the child's hand.

Compatibility

The adjustment dial is key to keeping your child’s helmet secure. The dial allows for easy and precise adjustments, even with gloves on. It also provides maximum comfort and safety. Turn the dial to the right to tighten and to the left to loosen.

The helmet has an injection-moulded, ABS outer shell to withstand powerful impacts. Durable and resistant to impact. The internal Epos skullcap absorbs impact during collisions. Change your child’s ski helmet at least every five years or after it has sustained a significant impact.

ABS structure

The European standard EN 1077:2007 applies to helmets used for cranial protection during downhill skiing and snowboarding.      This standard ensures that helmets absorb shocks and are resistant to penetration. There are two categories:
- Class A: Protects the top and back of the head as well as the ears and the side of the head.- Class B: Protects the top and back of the head but doesn’t cover the ears.

EN 1077 standard

* Measure the circumference of your child’s head in centimetres (around the middle of the forehead and just above the ears). 
* Then choose the size that corresponds to this measurement. 
Example: if the circumference of your child’s head is 49 cm (19”), they should try a helmet in size 48 cm–52 cm (18.9”–20.5”).

Which size?

Take plenty of time to try it on properly. Your child shouldn’t feel any discomfort. If they do, try another model. Always get kids to try the helmet on with their mask, because not all helmets go with all masks. A helmet is compatible with a ski mask when there are no gaps between the top of the goggles and the helmet.

When skiing, your helmet should be properly fitted and adjusted:
* It is essential to choose the right size.
* The head circumference should be adjusted using the adjustment dial.
* The chinstrap must be properly adjusted.
It’s a bit like a car seat belt: If it is too loose, it will not work as designed and your child will not be properly protected.

Your child shouldn’t wear a thick hat under the helmet, as this reduces protection. 
Wear a very thin beanie or balaclava. Helmets have good insulating properties. Often, nothing else is needed. Do not attach a camera to the helmet, as the extra weight can affect safety. The standard does not take into account any elements added to the helmet.

All Wedze gloves and mittens have a water-repellent treatment that makes water slide across the fabric’s surface instead of being absorbed. This means the fabric does not become saturated. It remains light and warm. A treatment applied to the outer surface makes the fabric water repellent. To remain effective, this treatment must be renewed every 2 to 3 washes with specific products that are available in our stores.

Water repellency of the component

The mitten’s waterproof membrane consists of a very thin polymer film placed between the lining and the part of the glove in contact with the environment. This membrane acts as a barrier to make the product waterproof. The product’s exterior materials are also treated for water repellency. Only a rubber-type glove is watertight. Under extremely wet conditions, a glove with a membrane will have limited waterproofness.

All Wedze gloves and mittens are windproof. Did you know that the wind makes you feel colder? At an outside temperature of 0°C and a wind speed of 20 km/h, the temperature will feel like -10°C. Windproof fabrics limit wind chill and cold caused by the speed of the sport.

Measure your head circumference (from the middle of the forehead and above the ears) and choose the right size. When trying it on, there should be no discomfort. If it has no visor, try the helmet with the mask: there should be no gap between the two.

How do you choose the right size?

For your kid’s safety, your ski helmet must be properly adjusted:
- The head size can be adjusted using the tightening wheel.
- The chinstrap must be properly adjusted. They must be able to fit 2 fingers between the strap and their skin. If fitted incorrectly, the helmet will offer less protection.

Adjust your helmet once you have the right size

We recommend changing your ski helmet every 5 years, unless it has sustained a significant impact in the meantime. In case of severe impact, you need to change the helmet: even if you can’t see it, the inner material may be damaged and your helmet will offer less protection.

When to change your ski helmet?

Avoid wearing a hat, as this will create a gap between your head and your helmet and reduce your protection. If necessary, choose a very thin balaclava designed for this purpose. 
Avoid putting a camera on the helmet, as this will compromise your safety. The standard does not take into account any elements added to the helmet.

How do the BL 100 Base Layer Bottoms fit?

Polyester is the most-used fibre for base garments because it is relatively inexpensive, offers excellent performance, and can be knit to obtain a very lightweight and durable fabric. It actively absorbs moisture but does not dry particularly well when wet.

What sizes are available?

EN 1078 is a European standard concerning the test methods and requirements for cycling, skateboarding and skating helmets.
This standard covers the following aspects: construction, including field of vision; shock-absorbing properties; fastening system features, including the chinstrap and tightening systems; markings and information.

What does the EN 1078 standard cover?

Helmets are designed to protect your head from a single impact. If you fall, you should replace the helmet even if there are no signs of damage. It may be weakened or cracked in an area you can’t see, and no longer provide adequate protection.
We recommend replacing your helmet every 5 years. Some of its components begin to age at this point, especially if stored in a cold or wet place. Manufacturing dates are printed inside the helmet.

When should you replace a helmet?

Helmets are personal protective equipment (PPE).
Make sure that you are satisfied with the model, fit, and colour before you buy.
Helmets must be returned with the original instructions, stickers, and if possible, original packaging, in order to be resold. Together, we can protect our planet.

How does the 100 base layer top fit?

Polyester is the most-used fibre for base garments because it is relatively inexpensive and offers excellent performance in various respects, and especially because the fibres can be knitted to obtain a very lightweight and durable fabric. It actively absorbs moisture but does not dry particularly well when wet.
Its ability to reduce odours is limited.

To make sure you stay warm and dry, we recommend using the “three technical layers” rule:  Layer 1: a second skin, to stay dry. Layer 2: an insulating layer that keeps the heat in. Layer 3: a protective layer that protects against the elements.
