Engineers and product designers work closely together to develop and enrich our collection of soccer goals with innovative models. For the Classic Goal collection, we kept customer feedback in mind as we focussed on recreating the feel of playing with a real goal while ensuring a durable, safe, and high-quality product.

Design

We work with an in-house mechanics lab (on the B’twin Village site) that lets us validate our goal designs before we put them into production.

For example, to assess a product's solidity, we perform load tests that simulate a child's weight. During this test, we apply a 35 kg (75 lb) load make sure that the goals don't deform.

Durability test

This goal better resists impacts thanks to the reinforced corners, metal attachments, and more durable round tube.
A rust-resistant treatment and more durable paint protects it from rust for 5 years. The result: It withstands 3 times more shots than our previous models and holds up for at least 5 years of normal use.

It's important that young soccer players use the right ball size, no matter their age.
Size 3 for < 9 year olds.

Size 4 between 9 and 12 years.
Size 5 for over 12 year olds.

In addition, we have conducted numerous lab and field tests to guarantee the ball's ability to withstand every hit.

How big is it? What’s the circumference?

Average measured variation: maximum of 2%.
We measure the ball’s sphericity at 4,500 different points and then examine any discrepancies. 
If the discrepancy is greater than 2% (FIFA Pro Standard), our engineers work on improving the sphericity to ensure a consistent bounce.

A round ball?

We inflate the ball to the recommended pressure (11.6 psi).
The ball cannot lose more than 15% of its pressure over the next 72 hours, meaning a maximum pressure loss of 1.5 psi. The pressure after 72 hours must be approximately 10.1 psi.
This also means that it’s quite normal for a ball to lose pressure after a few days.

To simulate rainy playing conditions in a lab, we put the ball in 2 cm of water on a pivoting support and subjected it to 250 compressions.
By the end of the test, the ball must not have absorbed more than 15% of its weight. For this ball, it means a maximum of 65 g.

We’ve also tested how much water the ball absorbs.

Between 125 and 155 cm (size 5) with a maximum difference of 10 cm between the ball's highest and lowest bounce. Each ball is dropped 10 times on a steel plate from a height of 2 m.Between 115 and 155 cm (42.3' and 61.0') for size 3 and size 4 balls.

It’s all about the bounce

The most demanding test this ball undergoes is the machine shot test.
The ball must resist up to 2,500 shots against an inclined flat concrete slab at 50 km/h at a distance of 2.5 m.
At the end of the test, we check:
- The ball’s general condition: Stitching must remain intact.
- Circumference: Must not have varied by more than 1.5 cm.

- Sphericity: Must not have varied by more than 2%.
- Air pressure: Pressure loss must not exceed 15%

We watched players on the field and spent a lot of time talking to coaches to establish their needs when setting up drills: marking points on the ground, dodging, etc. And so, the Essential collection was designed: It's made up of clever, affordable products that serve a major purpose (marking out drills, creating targets, etc.) to help you run fun, effective training sessions for all age groups. "We wanted to create a simple product that has always been part of the sport. The goal was to take a fresh look at an object that was often taken for granted. The flat markers are used in all drills. We added a unique shape to reflect Kipsta's strong identity: even training markers can look good!"

A unique design for more practical drills

A strong visual design is important. But a reliable, safe marker is even better. So to test the durability of the Essential cones, we ran various demanding field tests. Budding soccer players had fun testing their durability by walking all over the cones!

Design and testing

The environment is something that is very close to our hearts, so we worked hard to reduce these cones’ environmental impact. In addition to optimising the consumption of materials and eliminating the packaging, these markers are produced as close as possible to our stores to reduce transport emissions: in Portugal for our European stores, and in China for our Asian stores.
The result is a 14% drop in CO2 emissions.

To ensure your feet are as comfortable as possible we recommend choosing a soccer cleat that is half a size smaller than your usual size. The leather upper is naturally very supple and, unlike synthetic materials, will stretch and fit the contours of your foot. For your Viralto II cleats, pick a half size smaller (CAN / US size, 1 Euro size) than your usual size. We designed these soccer cleats with a podiatrist specializing in sports and professional football. Together, we developed and validated the various technologies and concepts used in these soccer cleats.
When creating the outsole, for example, the number of studs, their rounded shape and their locations on the cleat were specifically researched and designed to ensure the best balance between grip and comfort.

We enlarged the main surface area that makes contact with the ball by placing the laces in an asymmetric line. The laces were shifted to the outside by 10 degrees to provide you with a larger sweet spot for controlling, passing, and striking the ball.
