The waterproofing of a fabric is measured in Schmerbers or mm of water (pressure of a water column). The higher this number, the more waterproof the fabric. 
This jacket is designed with a waterproof coating: this component resists 5,000 mm of water (Schmerbers) before washing (equivalent to the pressure exerted by a 5,000 mm column of water).

Water resistance of the fabric

The fabric of our product is very breathable -12 RET.
Component breathability is measured by its thermal evaporative resistance (RET). This refers to its capacity to release perspiration during activity. The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric.

RET ≤ 12: breathable fabric
RET ≤ 20: breathable fabric
RET ≤ 20: little or non-breathable fabric

Fabric breathability

To maintain water repellency, we recommend regular reactivation.
Reactivate water repellency after three washes (remember to rinse thoroughly) or after using a dozen times in the rain. 
You can easily reactivate the water repellency properties by warming the fabric:
- in a dryer for 15 minutes (synthetics cycle)
- with a hair dryer, moving back and forth from a distance of 20 cm (8”)
- with an iron on the delicate setting and with the steam function off

How to maintain your jacket’s waterproof coating

This rain jacket was designed for a 2-hour hike at a maximum speed of 5 km/h (3 mph), with no ascent.
How much you perspire depends on the intensity and duration of your physical activity.If the fabric is not breathable enough for your activity, perspiration will condense inside the jacket,and you feel damp.This moisture is not rain soaking through the shell, but condensation caused by perspiration.You need to choose a rain jacket for your type of physical activity.

All our gloves are lab-tested on a thermal hand. The temperature ratings (recommended and limit) come from a study with a test panel of 23 walkers exposed to temperatures ranging from 5°C to -20°C and 10 km/h winds. These temperature ratings are only valid in walking conditions. The MT 500 Hiking Gloves have a warmth rating of 1 out of 5. Recommended temperature: 8°C | Limit temperature: 3°C

How is usage temperature measured?

Just like you wear several layers of clothing when hiking, you can wear liner gloves under your gloves that will act as a thermal base layer. This multi-layer system enables pockets of air to form around your hands, efficiently insulating them from the cold. Remember to wear large enough gloves so your fingers do not become constricted. Compression reduces blood circulation in the fingers.

When active, the body generates heat that is preserved by your clothing’s thermal insulation. If clothing isn’t warm enough, your body cools down and circulation to your hands and feet drops to keep your core warm. Your clothing therefore plays a role in keeping your hands warm.

How to keep your hands warm with the right clothing

Dexterity refers to your ability to handle objects while wearing gloves. Our MT 500 Hiking Gloves have been rated in a laboratory. The closer the glove’s dexterity is to 5, the easier it is to handle objects while wearing gloves. For example, we tested the MT 500 Hiking Gloves for putting on and opening a jacket, handling objects in a bivouac, and eating and drinking. Did you know that the wind can make you feel colder? An outdoor temperature of 0°C with a wind speed of 20 km/h feels like -10°C. The windproof components reduce the wind chill resulting from the cooling effect of the wind.

Dual-component structure

These pants have water-repellent zones (lower leg and seat) that prevent water from seeping through the fabric. This product is water-repellent, not waterproof.
The water-repellent pants don’t get wet too fast, but they won’t keep you dry in pouring rain. To restore the water repellent property, tumble dry on low heat for 10 minutes.

How do we test our sandals?

Our sandals are designed for use on trails. We choose and test the components of the sole to adapt to hiking on paths. However, they are not suitable for high mountain hiking and a single use on the road can accelerate their wear.

What’s it designed for?

- Clean off mud: remove dry mud with a hard brush,
- Treat stains: brush with warm water,
- Drying: air dry until fully dry.

How should you look after your sandals?

To find the right sandal, try on several different sizes and models. Go for a fitted size, or even a size below for those wearing a half size. Ensure that the heel is positioned correctly at the bottom of the sandal to prevent the foot from moving around and rubbing on descents.
