Schmerber

This garment has been subjected to a shower test using 60 L of water/sqm/hour for 2 hours. This test reproduces the average conditions of a rain shower in the mountains.
A waterproof rating of 5,000 mm means the fabric can withstand pressure exerted by 5,000 mm of water (the equivalent of a rain shower lasting for two hours).
 Waterproofing is expressed in Schmerbers (for example: 5,000 Schmerbers).

Component breathability is measured using thermal evaporative resistance (RET). 
RET refers to a fabric’s capacity to let perspiration evaporate. 
The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric.

Component breathability

Fogging is mainly due to the temperature difference between the body and the water.
The heat and moisture from your face create condensation inside the lenses,
forming tiny drops that blur your vision.

A good anti-fog treatment changes how these drops behave: instead of staying separate, they merge to form a thin film of water, keeping your vision clear.

Why do my swimming goggles fog up?

The anti-fog treatment creates a microscopic film of water to allow clear vision, but its wear is accelerated by rubbing inside the lenses or overexposure to chlorinated water. Taking care of the inside of your goggles is essential.

Over time, it is normal for the anti-fog effect to diminish. Briefly soaking the goggles in water may help in the short term, but can also accelerate the wear of the treatment. Our anti-fog marker reactivates the treatment!

The anti-fog treatment

Their watertightness depends on how well the silicone skirts match the shape of your face. 
Before buying your goggles, we recommend that you carry out the “suction cup” test without the elastic band. Position the goggles over your eyes; if they hold on by themselves with a little suction, they will be watertight once in the water. This test also helps spot any areas that feel uncomfortable on your face.

Size: How to choose your swimming goggles

These swimming goggles fit the shape of your face without needing to be overly adjusted.

Over-tightening can cause discomfort, leave marks, and even let water in.

It's not necessary to press against the lenses with your hands, a light suction effect is usually enough for swimming sessions without water inlet holes.

The straps ideally should rest 2–3 cm (0.8–1.2 in) above your ears for best comfort.

How to properly adjust your swimming goggles

All our swimming goggles protect against harmful UVA and UVB rays under normal use, regardless of lens tint. 

Looking directly at the sun is dangerous and can cause permanent eye damage.

UV Protection

- Rinsing your goggles (only if necessary) by simply dipping them in water
- Do not direct powerful jets of water at the inner surface of the lenses.
- Storing the goggles in their case after each session to prevent damage to the lenses (on the inner surface to preserve the anti-fog coating and on the outer surface to prevent scratches)
- Not exposing them to temperatures of over 60°C

Finally, do not touch/rub the inside of your lenses

Thanks to your feedback, we improved the design of the 10 litre Arpenaz NH 50 Hiking Backpack.
We added a double zipper on the main compartment and a larger pocket bottom on the outside pocket. The aim is to not lose your belongings when opening your bag. 
And of course, the price hasn’t increased!

The volume of each backpack is measured using a standardized method: the main compartment and all the pockets are filled with little balls. These balls are then emptied into a graduated container to get the equivalent volume in litres.

How is volume measured?

Put heavy items at the bottom. Pack your clothes around these items. Keep your waterproof jacket and/or fleece in an easy-to-access location. Place small frequently used items in the pockets (sunscreen, map, glasses, etc.). 

How to pack your backpack

At Decathlon, all of our Quechua backpacks are guaranteed for 10 years against normal product wear and tear. In the case of a defect, we recommend its repair, replacement, or a refund. The guarantee covers the components from the zip to the seams: more information can be found on our website.

The following components were validated in the lab: fabric, buckles, straps, foam, and zippers. For example, we test the fabric’s resistance to abrasion and tearing, colourfastness, and waterproofing. We also check the resistance of the construction using a dummy that reproduces a hiker’s movements to replicate several years of wear and tear.

How to adjust your backpack

The water-repellent components allow you to continue walking or hiking in light rain for short periods. Note: This backpack is not watertight or waterproof and does not come with a rain cover.
