The resistance of a fabric is measured by the height of a water column in mm that can be supported by the fabric (test based on the ISO 1092 standard).The higher the water pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. A component with an impermeability of 5,000 mm will therefore withstand the pressure exerted by 5,000 mm of water (which corresponds roughly to a 1-hour downpour). Waterproofing is expressed in Schmerber units (for example: 5,000 Schmerbers). This number applies before washing.

A coating applied to the fabric makes it waterproof and windproof. Technically, a waterproof fabric is also windproof. Protection from the wind is critical, as wind can chill the body during physical activity.

We carry out comparative studies in a thermal laboratory in walking conditions with low wind (5 km/h). This is how we measure the thermal resistance of our boots. However, every individual feels the cold differently. Comfort temperature: felt slightly cold and 70% of users find the thermal sensation acceptable on their feet.
Limit temperature: felt very cold and 10% of users consider the thermal sensation acceptable on their feet.

Will these boots be warm enough for your child’s winter hikes?

These boots have a membrane to guarantee waterproofing and breathability. A membrane is a very thin component applied to the inner surface of the fabric that prevents water from entering while allowing moisture to escape.
We tested this product in a laboratory simulating walking with the feet half immersed.
This shoe model was tested for up to 8,000 flexes, equivalent to 16 km of walking.

Are my boots 100% waterproof?

The material and tread of SnowContact soles are specifically designed for optimal grip and traction on snow. SnowContact soles are more effective on snow than traditional soles. When walking on ice, adding crampons to your boots is the only way to ensure optimum safety.

What are the advantages of SnowContact technology?

This product was lab-tested by our engineers to ensure your total satisfaction. We tested the following elements: tear resistance of eyelets and straps, bonding, toxicology, UV resistance, abrasion resistance of outsole and upper components, and accelerated aging.

Will my boots withstand regular use in the long term?

To stay warm when hiking in the winter, we recommend: 
Warmth: wear warm socks (ideally with a good percentage of wool).
Breathability: choose socks based on the intensity of the hike and, to minimize moisture, make sure they’re breathable.
Boot height: the height of your socks should correspond to the height of the boot—for more protection, choose higher socks.

How do I choose the right footwear for hiking in the snow?

Water repellency is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. This treatment needs to be reapplied throughout the product’s lifetime. How to preserve the technical qualities of the boots

Boots can become heavy if you wear them in wet conditions (through condensation and perspiration).
If your boots are very wet, remove the insole and fill the upper with balls of newspaper, changing them regularly. The paper will absorb the moisture and the boots will dry faster.
Never place your boots too close to a heat source. Leave them in a warm, dry, and ventilated place.

How to dress your children so they stay warm on the slopes

Yes. Thanks to its ultra-breathable design, this garment wicks perspiration away from the body, keeping your body dry and preventing you from feeling cold due to the damp (when doing intense exercise). Its close-fitting cut also helps to keep you warm. For optimal comfort on the slopes, we recommend using the 3-layer rule (see the paragraph above).

How will these liner gloves keep my child’s hands warm?

Optimize insulation by applying the layering principle. Wearing liner gloves under your gloves creates several air pockets that effectively insulate your hands from the cold. To achieve this, the gloves must be big enough not to compress your fingers. Compression reduces blood circulation in the fingers.

How to effectively protect your hands from the cold

When active, your body generates heat that’s trapped by your clothing’s thermal insulation. If clothing isn’t warm enough, your body cools down and circulation to your hands and feet drops to keep your core warm. Wearing warm clothing helps keep your hands warm.
If you’re unsure about size, it’s always better to choose a pair of gloves that are slightly too big.

How to keep your hands warm with the right clothing

Despite its many benefits, silk is delicate. That’s why we recommend you use this product as liner gloves, worn under a pair of gloves.
Avoid wearing them alone to prevent premature wear, especially during sports involving intensive use of poles such as ski touring, cross-country skiing, or power walking.
