The resistance of a fabric is measured by the height of a water column in mm that can be supported by the fabric (test based on the JIS 1092 standard).The higher the water pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. A component with an impermeability of 5,000 mm will therefore withstand the pressure exerted by 5,000 mm of water (which corresponds roughly to a 1-hour downpour). Waterproofing is expressed in Schmerber units (for example: 5,000 Schmerbers). This number applies before washing.

A coating applied to the fabric makes it waterproof and windproof. Technically, a waterproof fabric is also windproof. Protection from the wind is critical, as wind can chill the body during physical activity.

All our UV-resistant rash guards are UPF 50+, meaning they offer maximum sun protection. Choose your sleeve length based on your activity. Our line was primarily designed to meet surfers’ demanding needs. 
Choose your T-shirt based on the duration of your surf session: 1 hour, 2 hours, or 3 hours.

How to choose your rash guard (part 1)

1 hour: occasional practice. Choose either a loose fit (easy to put on, comfortable when dry) or a tight fit (comfortable when wet). Look for a loop system so you can fasten the rash guard to your shorts.
2 hours: regular practice. A rash guard with a drawstring and seamless underarm panels will improve fit and comfort in the water.
3 hours: intensive practice. A style with added warmth will let you stay out longer.

How to choose your rash guard (part 2)

Being an advanced surfer means you surf often and intensively. During your sessions, you paddle out to the lineup and feel comfortable duck diving or turtle rolling under waves. You show no fear in waves of more than one metre. Your swimwear and rash guard should stay put, no matter how powerful the waves are. This line was designed for intense surfing sessions, for all body types.

This Olaian rash guard blocks at least 98% of UVB rays and 95% of UVA rays (UPF 50+). This guarantees effective protection. Ideal for water sports, they can be worn in or out of the water.

UV protection even when wet

UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) is an international standard that measures  the proportion of UV rays a fabric lets through to your skin.
A UPF of 50+ means that the fabric blocks at least 98% of UVB rays and 95% of UVA rays.

What does UPF 50+ mean?

Our UV T-shirts meet the needs of the most demanding surfers. They’re compatible with many other water sports, including swimming, kitesurfing, windsurfing, wakeboarding, water skiing, and stand-up paddle boarding.

Suitable for multiple water sports

This top is UV-resistant, but it doesn’t provide total sun protection. Consider other factors like reflections (off water, sand, etc.), temperature, and time of day. Wearing this top is just one part of staying safe in the sun. You should also wear sunglasses and a hat or cap, apply sunscreen regularly, and drink plenty of water.

Check all the information indicated on the sidewall of the tire (diameter and width). For example, 27.5 x 1.90 means a tire with a 27.5” diameter that is 1.90” wide.
The dimensions in mm are also on the tire sidewall.
For example, 50-584 means your tire is 50-mm wide with an inner diameter of 584 mm (27.5 x 2.00).

How to choose your inner tube

Remove the old inner tube using Btwin tire levers.

Check the condition of your tire and replace it if necessary. 
Make sure no objects are lodged in the tire.
Check the condition of your tire rim strip.
A rim strip that’s even slightly bent can cause punctures.
Check that your rim doesn’t have any other issues that could damage your inner tube.

Checks to carry out before installing an inner tube

Watch our video before you start.
Pre-inflate the inner tube slightly to avoid pinching.
Make sure you’re using the correct valve for your rim and then insert it.
Put the entire inner tube inside the tire so that it fits inside the rim.
Take care not to pinch the inner tube when installing it.

Installing the inner tube

Start installing the tire at the valve.
Finish installing the tire across from the valve to avoid pinching the inner tube.
Never install your tire with a tool or a tire lever, as you risk pinching or puncturing the inner tube.

Carefully inflate your tire to the pressure recommended by the manufacturer (visible on the tire sidewall in PSI or bars: 1 bar = 14.51 PSI).
Regularly check that your tire is in the correct position as you inflate it.
