Weight (single ski)

The MT 85 Skis includes our Tour Light bindings and skins.
The binding is attached to a plate that lets you adjust the binding length by 50 mm (1.97”). That means it fits a wide range of foot sizes.
The baseplate is custom-mounted to suit every need.
This feature lets you lend your skis and change boot size.
It is a huge advantage for people who are new to cross-country skiing.

Pack: Skis, bindings, and skins

The MT 85 Skis’ skins are trimmed and cut to fit the length and width of the ski.
Made of 70% mohair and 30% synthetic material for the ideal balance between gliding performance (when climbing in order to save energy) and grip (when climbing to avoid backsliding).
The front elastic on the skins ensures quick fastening on the tip, and the skin fastens to the tail of the ski with the adjustable camlock.

Structure

The tip and tail sections of a ski with a rocker lift off the ground much sooner than on a cambered ski with no rocker: this moves the point of contact more to the centre of the ski. It shortens the surface of the ski in contact with the snow: the skis are easier to handle and more buoyant on soft snow. When leaning into turns, the edge length offers more grip on hard pack. A longer rocker improves handling.

What is a rocker?

The MT 85 Ski has a pronounced rocker at the front of the nose and a light rocker at the tail, making it easy to handle and turn on all types of snow.

Rocker

The skis make contact with the ground near the tip and tail, while the waist (under the bindings) is slightly raised (this is the camber). The longer and higher the camber, the greater the edge grip, and the more responsive the ski. The lower the camber, the more forgiving the ski and the better the handling.

The MT 85 Ski has a high camber for reassuring edge grip on hard snow and rebound in powder.

Camber

The sidecut is determined by 3 measurements: the width of the tip (front of ski), the waist (middle of ski) and tail (back of ski). The wider the tip, the easier the turn entry. The narrower the waist, the stronger the grip on hardpack. The wider the waist, the more comfortable and stable the ski in different snow conditions.

Preparation

Starting in January 2021, you can order MT 85 Skis without bindings on our website. 
Choose from a range of bindings: if you prefer a binding with ski brakes, you might want to have our Tour Free bindings mounted on your skis in one of our workshops.

Skis without bindings

Skis are more responsive the shorter they are. 
That’s why beginners are better off with shorter skis. 

For ski touring, we generally recommend you choose skis 
5 cm to 10 cm (2” to 4”) shorter than your height. 
Length can also vary according to your ski location: 
At a resort or on marked trails: from 5 cm to 15 cm (2” to 6”) less than the skier’s height 
In the mountains: from 0 cm to 10 cm (0” to 4”) less than the skier’s height.
