A little pricey compared to their other options, but definitely worth it. The paddle is extremely light and very pleasant to handle.
The paddle is extremely light.
This is a good paddle (assuming it lasts) with a delightful weight, but one issue is a little annoying. Unlike some other manufacturers Itiwit has not included a clip at the join of the botton and middle sections. They chose to use only a spring-loaded stainless steel nipple and hole to secure the two sections. This does work but it also means there is a little movement (play) between the two sections. This is not my paddle specifically as I have read complaints about this on the Decathlon UK site. This means on some or many or most strokes you can feel the bottom section move a little relative to the middle section. It is a tiny movement but I find it a little annoying. Some people will not notice or mind this. Some do and will. You can reduce this movement by placing a strip of standard electrical tape along the length of the shaft between the end and short of the stainless steel nipple. I used a half width of tape.
I found very few paddles available in Thailand under 600g. This one had the same surface area as my other paddle, which is smaller than most others. This suits me, but it may not suit others.
The concave section of the blade compared to a simple single curved blade seems to give a slightly smoother stroke with little or no flutter.
No flex in the shaft.
I have not checked the claimed weight of 585g.
Does spending this much on a paddle seem too much? No. On a long paddle recently I estimated I did about 5,000 strokes using a paddle that weighs 115g more. So 5,000 x 115g is 575kg.
About me:
I am mostly still a beginner who has been paddling the Itiwit 13' touring board on the Gulf of Thailand with the two part Itiwit paddle weighing 700g for the last few months, about 50 paddles. The two part paddle is fine. I needed a three part one for travel.
Hello Mark, first of all thank you very much for taking time to write this informative review on our ITIWIT paddle. This will be benefit to other user absolutely. As you mentioned this is a superlight paddle and thank to the carbon fiber shaft with other of it components.
Apart from grip wax, for a better grip experience you can use a silicone paddle grip as well. The silicone grip can also be put around the two parts to create a better consistency. The paddle is adjustable to suit your needs too. Stay healthy and enjoy your sport!
Excellent paddle, light and versatile and comes in a great carrier bag.
