CONTENTS

3 petanque boules and 1 jack.

How to choose the right petanque boule

Choose your petanque boule based on:
1. Desired bounce quality (hard, semi-soft, soft, or very soft boule)
2. Size of your hand (diameter).
3. Your playing style, which determines the weight of your boule (heavier for pointers and lighter for shooters). 4. Its feel in your hand (if you cannot decide between 2 sizes).

What does hardness mean for a petanque boule?

The boule's hardness is expressed in the ROCKWELL "HRC" unit or in kg/mm².
For example, 39 HRC corresponds to 124 kg/mm².

The higher the number, the harder the boule. The harder the boule, the less likely it is to get damaged, and the higher its elasticity, and vice versa.Regular players who use soft boules should consider frequently changing their boules to avoid undermining their game.

How are competition-approved GEOLOGIC petanque boules made

Our petanque competition boules are hollow. Here is how they are made:
- A lump of steel heated to 1000°C is flattened and then stamped or forged into a hemisphere.
- These hemispheres are welded together and rotated until they are spherical.
- The boule is then engraved, baked, and dipped into water to obtain the desired hardness.
- Finally, they are polished or varnished and then inspected.

How to clean your petanque boules?

After each match, wipe off dust with a clean cloth. Once a month, oil your petanque boules to prevent them from rusting. Cleaning regularly lengthens the lifespan of your petanque boules while also ensuring the quality of your match.

Good Balls
Carl (United States)
I tried FBT balls years ago when they were available here with the La Franc brand. I thought they were okay, but I preferred Ton'r and still do. Extra soft balls last only a very short time, so I bought these to use for practice (200+ throws per day) to reduce wear of my preferred sets. Though these balls are plated they mark nicely for good tactile feel when played on basalt or granite, and they also remain smooth for good tack with a little condensation on the fingers. For accuracy these smooth balls require more awareness of the feel in the fingers, so they help for training to focus the mind. In time maybe I will want to play tournaments with them -- we'll see. A good price for good balls.
