For skate skiing: the poles are bigger to maximize push-off
For classic cross-country skiing: the poles are smaller.

They can be made of:
Aluminum. sturdy and heavy = ideal for beginners,
Fibreglass: lighter, but more fragile,
Carbon fibre and other materials: extremely light and rigid.

1- Choose poles that are at the height of your shoulders
2 - Multiply your height in cm X 0.89 to work out the size of your poles
