How can I be sure that my boots are warm enough for hiking in the winter?
We assess the thermal insulation of our shoes based on the field and lab tests carried out by a panel of users to measure the perceived cold. It is therefore possible to accurately know down to which temperature your shoes are protecting you. The comfort temperature ratings are given for the shoes: -6°C for this model.
How do my boots protect me from outside conditions?
Your boots are designed with a membrane to guarantee waterproofing and breathability. A membrane is a very fine component (from 5 to 25 micrometres) on the inside of a fabric that prevents water ingress but lets moisture out.
Breathable boots for optimal thermal comfort
Thermal comfort is a balance between the warmth of the boots and their ability to allow the foot to breathe. With too much heat or not enough breathability, moisture accumulates and cold can set in. We have designed your boots with your activity in mind, be it occasional or regular, with a membrane that prevents water ingress and allows moisture out.
How can I be sure that my boots are 100% waterproof?
We have checked that your boots are waterproof with laboratory tests that simulate walking with feet half-immersed in water and with wear and ageing tests in the field. During the waterproofing test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2000 flexes (approx. 4 km walk), 4000 flexes (approx. 8 km walk), and 8000 flexes (approx. 16 km walk). This boot model has been tested for up to 4000 flexes, which is equivalent to 8 km of walking.
What is the difference between traction and grip?
The grip of the boots is linked to the lugs, their number and shape. Traction depends on the materials and ridges used on the soles, like your car's tires. Grip optimizes propulsion, prevents the boot from sliding back when climbing, and stabilizes the boot. Traction prevents sliding and slipping on smooth terrain and difficult conditions (rain, snow, ice), increasing the grip of the sole.
Which type of grip and traction does this shoe provide?
Equipped with SNOWCONTACT soles, your boots are designed for maximum grip comfort for hiking and traction on snow. The location and height of the lugs (3 mm) are inspired by lynx paws and are spaced strategically for optimal grip when hiking on snow on steep terrain. The surface and design of the studs are designed to perfectly grip the layer of hard snow and evacuate excess water to not slip.
How does the SNOWCONTACT technology used on the boot sole help me?
The SNOWCONTACT soles are designed using a specific component and a lug pattern that is designed to provide the best possible grip and traction. SNOWCONTACT soles are more effective than traditional soles on snow. When used on ice, optimum safety can only be ensured by adding non-slip grips.
Will my shoes withstand regular use over time?
Our engineers conduct laboratory tests to fully guarantee your satisfaction in use. Among other things, we validate the following elements: strength of eyelets and straps, strength of glued assemblies, toxicology, UV resistance, abrasion resistance of the sole and upper components and accelerated aging.
How to choose the right footwear for winter hiking?
To be well equipped in winter, we recommend that you follow these principles: Warmth: warmth provided by a warm pair of socks (ideally containing a suitable percentage of wool) Breathability: Choose the sock according to the intensity of the hike and make sure you get a breathable model to minimize moisture. Boot height: adjust the height of the sock to the height of the boot and preferably choose high models if want more protection.
How to protect the technical qualities of the boots
A fabric's water-repellent property is its capacity to make water run off its surface without seeping in. This prevents the fabric from swelling, and keeps it lightweight, breathable, and warm. A fabric becomes water repellent by applying a treatment to its outer surface. This treatment needs to be renewed during the lifetime of the garment. Products (spray or liquid) designed specifically for this purpose are available in our stores.
How does my product warranty work?
This product is guaranteed for 2 years from the date shown on the sales receipt. A product covered by the warranty will be repaired or exchanged free of charge. The warranty covers product defects, excluding those resulting from normal wear and tear and improper use.
