500 Explorer Baseplate Orienteering and Hiking Compass

This was my most frustrating purchase from Decathlon. After ordering and paying, the compass was supposed to be shipped in 2 to 3 days - the compass took 2 weeks to be delivered, and tracking the order was impossible. The courier that Decathlon used kept telling me that it

was coming on this day or that, and I ended up waiting at work beyond my hours "because they are coming today". This happened multiple times and left me exhausted, but worse, after a big struggle, when the compass finally arrived it was in a dirty bag that had clearly been stepped on and thrown around. Now on to the review of the actual compass, having multiple Decathlon products, I have come to expect quality, but this was a waste of money. Whether from the terrible handling of the device during the delivery or just poor quality, the compass does not perform. The needle gets stuck all of the time and no matter how perfectly I place it, it is impossible to trust the bearings it gives. I bought this for training purposes for a mountain guide course, and had 10 compasses to compare bearings with, so I could very quickly verify that this one is terrible. I do know how to use a compass, so this wasn't a user error, it was just a bad compass. The rubber on the dial easily slips off and seizes which then results in frustration as you try to slip it back on, only to get a wrong bearing anyways. The flat wide needle looks pretty, but the viewing angle is terrible, so you have to have it at your waste or on the ground to get it lined up, which was a nightmare during the course compared to other cheaper compasses, eventually I just had to share my partner's compass to complete the tasks. Presentation-wise, it is a pretty compass, albeit, a pretty useless one. I've selected one week or less, but the reality is it didn't work from day 1 and I wouldn't attempt to use it again.
