Footwear waterproofing test.
These shoes, which have been laboratory and field tested, are equipped with a waterproof membrane that provides optimum waterproofing and breathability. First, the boot is immersed in water while internal air pressure is applied to check that no bubbles form on the surface of the footwear. Next, the boots are fitted to a mechanical arm that simulates walking and half-immersed in water so we can test that the inside remains perfectly dry.
3 levels of waterproofing.
In the waterproof test, we test 3 levels of waterproofing: 2000 flexes (about 4 km walk), 4000 flexes (about 8 km walk) 8000 flexes (about 16 km walk). Of course, after this test or in use, the boot regains its original waterproofing once dry.
Footwear waterproof rating.
The TREK 100 shoe has been tested and validated for 8000 flexes, equivalent to a 16 km walk, in water reaching the middle of the upper.
Laboratory tests were conducted to test the following elements: - secure fastening of eyelets and hooks - sole assembly - toxicology - UV resistance - abrasion of the sole and upper components - accelerated ageing.
Try on both shoes, while standing up, with socks worn for hiking. Try several models and sizes if necessary. Check the following two pressure points: the base of the heel (the heel should not lift or very little) and the forefoot when going downhill (the toes should not touch the front of the boot). There should be no pressure points when you try them on. Don't hesitate to walk around the store. Gradually wear in your shoes during your first few hikes so that they conform to your feet.
Use a brush to clean the shoe and remove dirt or mud residue. Brush in the same direction to restore the nubuck's original appearance. Do not use nourishing cream or waterproof grease on split leather. Although it will not damage the leather, it will change the appearance of your shoes.
The Trek 100 W boots are made in the European Union, in Romania. Most of the materials are of European origin.
