TECHNICAL INFORMATIONS

What type of fill gives my jacket warmth?

Recognized for their high thermal insulation, down and feathers also provide an excellent weight/warmth/compression ratio. However, the warmth comes from both the weight and fill power of the down/feathers. Together, they provide you with warmth and insulate you from the cold.

In addition to the fill, which components provide warmth?

In addition to the liner jacket's fill, the adjustable cuffs, snow skirt, waterproof zippers, high collar, and hood adjustments conserve heat and prevent cold air from getting in.

What is a membrane and what's it for?

The membrane is a very thin film applied to the inner surface of the outer fabric. This hydrophilic component prevents water from seeping in while wicking away perspiration. The membrane is key to staying warm and dry.

How is the water resistance of a jacket measured?

A fabric’s resistance is measured by the height of a water column in mm that it can support (test based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. Waterproof material with a rating of 12,000 mm withstands the pressure exerted by a 12,000 mm column of water, roughly equivalent to a two-hour shower.

Which parts of the jacket protect me from bad weather?

The 980 jacket was rigorously developed and assembled to keep water out and prevent wind chill, so you can brave bad weather. To test its water-resistance, this jacket was placed under a special shower that reproduces real-world conditions. This product’s waterproofness was field-tested over several days in various weather conditions.

Why does my jacket need water repellency?

Water repellency is a material’s ability to shed water without absorbing it. This jacket’s water-repellent features boost its weather resistance. To remain effective, this treatment must be restored regularly using the products sold in our stores.

How to restore your jacket's water repellency?

Water repellency can be restored. To do this, tumble-dry the jacket on a synthetics cycle for 10 to 15 minutes.
You can also use a waterproofing spray, sold in our stores: spray evenly over the entire garment, then allow to dry for 10 to 12 hours.

Easy tracking

The 980 jacket has a Recco® system at the back of the neck for easy tracking in an avalanche.

What is a "breathable" jacket?

This jacket wicks perspiration away. To determine a fabric’s breathability, we measure its resistance to evaporative heat (RET) based on a standardized ISO 11092 test. The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric. The 980 jacket has an RET of 8. However, it is the technical solutions (zips, vents, mesh) that Wed’ze uses that reduce condensation inside and maximize breathability.

What is the cut of the 980 jacket?

Slim fit. The jacket is tighter at the chest. Roomy enough to wear with a first and second technical layer.

Staying warm on the slopes

To stay warm and dry, just apply the 3 technical layers rule:
- Layer 1, a second skin, to stay dry.
- Layer 2, an insulating layer, to keep the heat in.
- Layer 3, a protective layer, to protect against bad weather.

In case of a fall, how can I prevent snow from entering?

The snow skirt at waist level closes with snaps at the bottom of the ski jacket. The built-in snow skirt and adjustable cuffs block snow and drafts while skiing, especially in case of a fall.

How to wash your liner jacket?

* Wash the jacket inside-out
* Machine wash at 30°, delicate cycle, with a small amount of detergent and without fabric softener.
* Put two clean, ideally white, tennis balls in the washing machine.
* Perform a second or third rinse cycle to make sure that any remaining detergent from the previous wash has been eliminated.

How to dry your liner jacket

Tumble-dry (strongly recommended)
* Gentle or delicate cycle.
* Be sure to select a gentle spin cycle.
* Dry on several long cycles to dry completely.
* Between two cycles, shake the down to break up any clumps that formed during washing.
If you do not have a dryer, the process is longer. (drying flat can take one to two weeks). Make sure you pat the jacket to avoid clumps (at least 4–5 times)

Where do the feathers come from?

Our traceability system guarantees the origin of the feathers in accordance with our commitment to use responsible materials. Our suppliers are committed to using only feathers that come from ducks that are raised for their meat and plucked after slaughter.

Our products' environmental impact

The environmental impact of the product is calculated over its entire life cycle and using various indicators. An ABCDE rating shows the environmental impact of a product. Put forward by ADEME, it takes into account production, transportation, usage, and waste generated at the end of a product’s life. Decathlon displays this information voluntarily to help you identify products with lower environmental impact. Learn more at: sustainability.decathlon.com.
