Resistant soles for nature trails
Extensive lab research went into designing this sole. We chose a specific rubber formula that optimizes grip and resistance. Since needs are often different, we're always looking for the best solution for walking along loose nature trails like unpaved forest paths.
Designed for use on natural paths
Our hiking shoes are designed for walking on natural trails. The components of our shoes' soles and uppers are chosen and tested to best adapt to hiking on soft trails (dirt forest paths) or rocky trails (coastal paths). Walking on pavement can cause premature wear and discomfort. They are not suitable for walking in the mountains.
Reducing our environmental impact
For these shoes, we chose components that are more environmentally friendly: the fabrics used are 100% recycled polyester.
In addition, we ground up manufacturing waste and reused it to make the sole.
In total, 28% of the weight of the shoe is made of more environmentally-friendly components.
Laboratory tests
Laboratory tests were conducted to test the following elements: tearing of the eyelets and straps, stitching, toxicology, UV resistance, abrasion of the sole and upper components, and accelerated ageing. These tests allow us to improve the quality of our products and prevent the premature wear of our hiking shoes.
Choosing the right hiking shoe size
Try on both shoes, while standing, wearing your hiking socks. Try on several models or sizes if necessary. Check two comfort points:
- the heel seating
- the front of the foot on a downward slope
Avoid any pressure points when fitting. Feel free to walk around the store. Gradually break in your shoes over the course of a few hikes so that they conform to your feet.
The shoe/sock combination plays an important role
There are multiple factors that can cause blisters when walking: rubbing, a crease in a sock, moisture, a shoe size that is too small or too big, etc. It's therefore important to choose the right size and to have socks made of the right material for your walking shoes.
Choosing the right walking sock size
You must choose the right sock size for your foot, so that there are no additional creases in your socks. If if your socks are too big, wrinkles will rub and may cause blisters. If the socks are too small, they may create pressure points and sock slippage.
Choosing the right walking sock material
Moisture must be effectively managed when walking: we sweat—it’s bound to happen. If your shoes are breathable, they'll wick away moisture caused by perspiration. So, choosing light and breathable socks is important too. If your shoes are relatively waterproof for rain protection, you'll want to make a different choice: choose socks that will absorb your sweat and direct it as far as possible away from your feet.
What socks should you wear with the NH500 Fresh shoes?
We suggest choosing socks made of cotton-free polyamide. Polyamide is a fibre that is specially chosen for its moisture-wicking properties. So when you sweat, socks made of polyamide will wick away any moisture, after which your shoes will take over the task of transferring the moisture to the outside through the ventilated mesh. For this, we recommend our Newfeel WS500 Fresh socks.
