Why wear a down vest?

A vest helps to keep the body warm: It protects the chest, neck, and core from the cold, as these areas are especially sensitive to chills. It is sleeveless so it saves weight in your backpack and it provides even more breathability during exercise, as well as excellent freedom of movement when worn under a jacket. Worn underneath the MT 100 Hiking Down Jacket, the vest can provide 6°C of extra warmth when compared to a down jacket worn without the vest.

The advantages of duck down and feather filling

The fill power of down has three advantages for mountain sports: - The air trapped in the down and feathers provides thermal insulation - Ultra-low weight: down is lighter than synthetic wadding while offering the same degree of warmth. This saves even more weight in your backpack - Ultra-compressible

Inflating power of down/feather filling

Fill power is a measure of the down’s thermal insulation capacity and potential to trap air. It is expressed in cuin (cubic inches). Down with a higher fill power (higher cuin number) will occupy more space, trap more air and provide greater thermal insulation. This down vest, with an 85% down/15% feather filling, has a guaranteed fill power of 660 cuin or more (European standard).

Care instructions

This vest can be worn throughout the season and will require washing. Our advice: 1/ Machine wash at 30°C. Use a gentle spin cycle. 2/ Tumble dry with 2 or 3 tennis balls and repeat 2 or 3 times until the garment is completely dry.

Repairing a vest

Snags are common when hiking in a padded jacket. The good news is that it can be repaired to prevent the tear from getting bigger or feathers from escaping. Not sure about repairing it yourself? Don’t worry! Some of our in-store workshops offer a repair service to mend your product.

Water repellency (not to be confused with waterproofing)

A fabric’s water repellency is its ability to make water run off its surface without being absorbed. This keeps the fabric lightweight and warm. The fabric of this down jacket is water-repellent; however, we recommend that you wear a waterproof jacket over it during prolonged exposure to the rain. The fabric is made water-repellent by treating its outer surface; however, this property may deteriorate with use. We recommend restoring it after each wash.

Restoring water repellency

Once you have cleaned your padded jacket, we recommend using a water-repellent reactivator spray to preserve the hydrophobic properties of the outer fabric. This renews the fabric’s water-repellent properties and optimizes its performance throughout its life cycle.
