Top-Layer Pants Structure / 3 Layers
These top-layer pants are made up of 3 layers, the best protection there is on the market: the membrane is glued between the inner and outer component layer. The membrane is a very thin polyurethane film that makes the component waterproof while remaining breathable. It's protected by a knit, and has the advantage of being softer, lighter, more durable, and often more breathable than a coating.
Waterproofness test
Waterproofing is measured by a fabric’s resistance to water pressure expressed in mm of water column (JIS 1092 standard) The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. The waterproof component of this product is rated 15,000 mm, which means it can withstand the pressure exerted by a 15,000 mm column of water. Equivalent to a 15,000 mm Schmerber waterproof rating.
Breathability test
Component breathability is measured by thermal evaporative resistance (RET). This is the fabric’s ability to let perspiration escape during physical activity and prevent it from accumulating on the skin. The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric. RET ≤ 6: very breathable fabric RET ≤ 12: breathable fabric RET ≤ 20: fabric with relatively little breathability Our product has a RET of 8.

The water-repellent property of a fabric is its capacity to make water run off its surface without being absorbed. This means the top-layer pants don't soak up water and they stay lightweight and breathable. The fabric is made water-repellent by treating its outer surface; however, this property may deteriorate with use. I'm usually a medium but I sized up based on the size chart. The large fit me well with room for hiking pants underneath, but the fit is odd - because there's zero stretch in the fabric, lifting your legs or squatting is very uncomfortable and snug. For walking in the city the
y are totally fine. Not sure I will love them for backpacking, and they're definitely not good for cycling. For the price they are ok, but don't expect gortex level comfort.

Pretty happy with these, although the price has increased since I bought them. They fit as I expected, I'm 5'4" and 130 lbs, I purchased women's S (I think the tag says size 28, which is my usual size in pants). On the other hand, jackets and tops I've purchased from Decathlon
have been smaller than expected, so I'm glad the pants fit me well. Would be nice if there was a short version as they are a little long on me, but considering they're for utility and not style, I can live with some bunching around the ankles.
