At the beginner level, you are just learning to surf or surf only a few times a year. You ride small or broken waves in shallow waters where your feet touch the bottom. We offer a wide range of swimwear for beginners of all body types.
UV protection
These Olaian leggings block at least 98% of UVB rays and 95% of UVA rays (UPF 50+), guaranteeing effective protection from the sun. Ideal for water sports, they can be worn in or out of the water. The density of the weave filters out UV rays for long-lasting protection, even after washing. The elastane may deteriorate in chlorinated water.
Reduced chafing
These leggings help reduce chafing, especially around the knees and inner thighs when you’re lying down or sitting on a surfboard.
What does UPF 50+ mean?
UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) is an international standard that measures the proportion of UV rays a fabric lets through to your skin. A UPF of 50+ means that the fabric blocks at least 98% of UVB rays and 95% of UVA rays.
Support and stability in waves.
The fitted waistband keeps the leggings in place even when you fall into the waves. A cord at the waistband can be tied to a UV-protection rash guard to keep the top from riding up. This cord does not tighten the waist. We recommend pairing these leggings with an Olaian 500 UV-protection rash guard (available in short- and long-sleeved styles) for maximum protection.
Suitable for multiple water sports
Our UV leggings meet the needs of the most demanding surfers. They’re compatible with many other water sports, including swimming, kitesurfing, windsurfing, wakeboarding, water skiing, and stand-up paddle boarding.
Sun exposure advice
Anti-UV leggings are a smart choice, but they don’t provide complete sun protection. It’s essential to consider other factors, such as reflections (off sand, water, etc.), temperature, and time of day, when you’re out in the sun. For example, you should also wear a UV-protection top, sunglasses, and a hat or cap, plus regularly apply sunscreen and drink water.

They are thick and fit snug. I wear them for sun protection when swimming, as I have a sun allergy. I am sure they will protect against the sun as they are thick material unlike other swim leggings I have worn.

Fantastic quality fabric with good stretch. Unfortunately the shelf edge description label in the branch assured me they had a drawstring waist for security and good fit - this is completely untrue. The drawstring is for decoration only. You cannot adjust the waist size in
any way so if your leggings fit loose at the waist you are going to find them filling with water!
