Is my jacket warm enough for winter hikes?

This jacket is designed for winter conditions: cold, rain, and snow. Lining insulation: 200 g/m² on the body and 150 g/m² on the arms. The lined hood also keeps your head protected and warm. The elastic cuffs on the jacket hem and sleeves ensure comfort.

How does this jacket protect from outdoor conditions?

The jacket has a waterproof material that keeps out water and wind. To stay warm in winter, you must also protect your extremities (head, hands, feet). The warm hood, fastenings at the cuffs, and high collar keep the cold out. Two warm, very soft fleece pockets protect your hands from the cold.

The waterproofness of a jacket isn’t just limited to its components: the assembly technique also makes a difference. Whether heat-sealed or sewn then waterproofed, this jacket’s overall waterproofness is measured using a shower test developed by Decathlon, which simulates rain of different intensities. This waterproof jacket protects you from a downpour, i.e., 12 cm (4.7”) of rain in 2 hours.

The impermeability of a fabric, provided by a coating or membrane, is measured in Schmerbers or mm (pressure exerted by a column of water). The higher this number, the more waterproof the fabric. This jacket has a waterproof component resistant to a 12,000 mm water column (Schmerbers) before washing.

How to preserve the technical qualities of your jacket

Water repellency is a fabric’s capacity to make water run off its surface without being absorbed. It prevents the fabric from soaking up water, keeping it lightweight, warm, and breathable. Water repellency is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. The garment should be retreated over its lifespan (recommended after each wash). Products for this purpose (spray or liquid) are available in our stores.
