All our gloves are lab-tested on a thermal hand. The temperature ratings (recommended and limit) come from a study with a test panel of 23 hikers exposed to temperatures ranging from 5°C to -20°C and 10 km/h (6 mph) winds. These temperature ratings are only valid in hiking conditions.
The MT 500 Fleece Gloves have been given a warmth rating of 1 out of 5.

How is usage temperature measured?

Optimize insulation by applying the layering principle. Wearing liner gloves in addition to gloves creates several air pockets that effectively insulate your hands from the cold. The gloves must be big enough not to compress your fingers. This is because compression slows down blood flow in the fingers, which prevents them from staying warm.

How does the fabric insulate you from the cold?

We perform two kinds of tests to measure the warmth of our fleece:
- a material test 
- tests on a thermal manikin in a thermal chamber We reproduce wind (5 km/h), temperature, and humidity conditions typically encountered in the mountains on a 5 km/h hike.
These laboratory tests determine the design, which is then validated by field testers. 
This fleece will keep you comfortable at temperatures ranging from 7°C to 10°C, with no extra layer.

Do these pants keep you warm?

The thermal resistance test shows heat loss from the body to the outside, indicating the insulating properties of the product. This test can be done on the fabric using thermal probes or clothing with thermal models, measuring body heat retention.

How is thermal comfort measured?

Keeping snow out of your hiking pants is essential for comfort, protection against humidity, and warmth. The semi-elastic waistband and leg bottoms effectively keep snow out. This keeps you comfortable on walks!

Why keep snow out?

The water-repellent fabric of these hiking pants actively repels water. This keeps you dry in light rain or in wet areas. Key areas such as the seat and lower legs have additional waterproof reinforcements.

You must regularly restore the water-repellent treatment, ideally after each wash. We sell these products in spray and liquid form in our stores and on our website.

Wool fibres can store a lot of air and let water vapour escape, making wool an excellent choice for moisture management and thermal regulation. Wool’s ability to store and release moisture make it an insulating, comfortable material for hiking socks.

The properties of wool

The merino wool, from Spain, has been a carefully selected breed for generations because of its wool. It provides a softer fibre than traditional wool. After shearing, the wool is cleaned to remove impurities, then carded, spun, and finally used for knitting or weaving.

What is merino wool?

Merino wool offers an unbeatable experience: soft, lightweight, and breathable. Thanks to its fine fibres, it provides natural thermal regulation. It keeps your feet warm in cool weather and cool in warm weather.

What are the benefits of merino wool?

To stay warm when hiking in the winter, we recommend: 
- Warmth: wear warm socks (ideally with a good percentage of wool). 
- Breathability: choose socks based on the intensity of the hike and, to minimize moisture, make sure they’re breathable.
- Boot height: the height of your socks should correspond to the height of the boot: for more protection, choose higher socks.

Why does a fleece keep you warm?

We carry out 2 types of thermal testing:
On the fleece materials and with a thermal mannequin in a climate chamber. The comfort of this sweater is between 7 and 10°C.

The fleece is equipped with a breathable component. It can effectively wick away perspiration while keeping you warm. This means you stay dry and comfortable even during intense exercise.

Why make a breathable fleece?

This fleece jacket has a fitted cut without being too tight. For optimal protection from the cold, we recommend wearing a technical base layer underneath. It is worn under our windproof and waterproof jackets. Choose your usual size.

About the design and finishes of the headband

To find out how breathable a fabric is, you measure resistance to evaporative transfer (RET). This refers to the fabric’s capacity to expel the water vapour created by the body during exercise, thus preventing the accumulation of moisture on the skin. The lower the RET value, the more breathable the fabric. The component of our warm+V2 headband has a RET of 3.8 on a scale ranging from 0 to 40.

What about the breathability of the headband?

Since it features a technical component, our product doesn't like the washing machine and high temperatures.
To preserve its technical qualities, we recommend washing the product by hand and letting it air dry.
