How warm is this padded jacket?

When worn as a third layer, this padded jacket has been certified for an active comfort temperature of -10°C during a standardized test in a thermal chamber. The model is wearing a synthetic, long-sleeved shirt and a light fleece underneath. It works with a simulated 5 km/h (3 mph) wind. We also tested this product in static mode; the comfort temperature is 0°C in this case.

The advantages of down and feather filling

The fill power of down has 3 advantages for mountain hiking: - Thermal insulation, because of the air trapped in the down and feathers. - Ultra-lightweight: down wadding is lighter than synthetic and provides the same warmth. This saves more weight in your backpack. - Ultra-compressible.

Measuring the fill power of down and feather filling

Fill power is a measure of the down’s thermal insulation capacity and potential to trap air. It is expressed in cuin (cubic inches). Down with higher fill power will take up more space, trap more air, and provide greater thermal insulation. This jacket is filled with 90% down and 10% feathers and has a guaranteed fill power of 800 cuin (international standard) or more.

Filling weight

XS:122 g (4.3 oz.) S:131 g (4.6 oz.) M:140 g (4.9 oz.) L: 149 g (5.2 oz.) XL:159 g (5.6 oz.) 2XL: 170 g (5.9 oz.) 3XL: 181 g (6.3 oz.) 4XL: 192 g (6.7 oz.)

How to care for down jackets

This washable down jacket can be worn all winter. But the less you wash it, the longer its thermal insulation and water repellency will last. Our advice: 1. Machine wash at 30°C with detergent specially formulated for down or technical garments. Use a gentle spin cycle. 2. Tumble dry with 2 or 3 tennis balls; repeat 2 or 3 times until completely dry.

Water repellency (different from waterproofing)

This fabric is water-repellent. Water repellency keeps the fabric lightweight and warm. It is recommended to wear a waterproof jacket over top in the rain. Treatment on the outer surface achieves water repellency, but the treatment can deteriorate with use. We recommend restoring it after each wash.

Restoring water repellency

After washing, we recommend using a water-repellent spray to prevent water absorption. This renews water-repellent properties and improves performance throughout the garment’s life cycle.

Got a snag? How to repair your jacket

Snags are common during hikes. The good news is that it can be repaired to prevent further tearing and to stop feathers from escaping. Need help repairing? Don’t worry! Some Decathlon workshops offer in-store repairs and can repair your jacket using an iron-on patch.

I wear a standard fleece over my work shirt, this jacket and a 3L shell daily. Temperatures were well below -20 C this week and I was completely comfortable, even with the wind chill. My only complaint is the plastic zipper. This is a superb jacket but has a cheap zipper.

The jacket was a good fit, close to the body, but able to layer under it. It is lighter than my other 800 fill jacket but feels as warm. It is comfortable with a long sleeve t down to around 0, and with a mid layer, comfortable down to minus 10

I bought this on sale, and it is the best value for quality purchase in outdoor wear that I've made in a long time. The colour stands out in a sea of black, grey and blue, and the orange highlights are a special touch - I get compliments on it all the time. The fit is on t

he trimmer, form fitting side, so size up if you need to layer a lot. The thin down insulation was suitable to keep me warm to -10 (-15 with windchill) on my recent trip to Calgary, and the hidden elastic cuffs in the sleeves and hood provide that extra bit of sealing to keep out the wind. Currently living in Vancouver, the added bonus that it can be rolled up into its own bag is that I can stash it away in my luggage until I needed it when I landed in Calgary.

I would totally think twice if I had to buy something again… The product is not what I thought it will be in compact size. Even when stored, it’s still bulky.
