True innovation
A high-performance inflatable kayak that can be stowed in a trolley bag and carried easily from place to place. To develop a 2-seater version of the X500 kayak, 5 prototypes were necessary. Our main challenge was figuring out how to ensure rigidity and performance. We eventually patented a unique shape and blend of materials.
Inspired by demand
We listened to kayakers. They wanted an inflatable 2-person kayak with the performance and speed of a hardshell.
What is dropstitch?
Dropstitch material consists of 2 layers of PVC connected by thousands of polyester threads. When inflated to high pressure, these threads become taut, preventing the kayak from losing its shape. This is what makes our inflatable kayak extremely rigid but easy to store in a backpack once deflated.
Inflating the kayak
1. Inflate the main chamber (floor), then the intermediate chambers (walls), followed by the small chambers (arches). They should all be inflated to 15 psi (1.03 bar) max. 2. Insert the footrests on the flexible guides, push them inside the kayak, and adjust to your leg length using the buckle. 3. Position the seats by fitting them onto the provided shims. 4. Position the backrests under the coaming. Itiwit double-action hand pump (8387655) recommended (sold separately).
Disassembling and deflating the kayak
It’s quite simple. 1. Place the kayak on a clean surface. 2. Remove the seats. 3. Remove the footrests. 4. To deflate, remove the valve cap and press the valve down. Leave it in the open position to let air escape. 5. Tuck in the hatch and fold lengthwise to press air out.
Folding and storing the kayak
1. Tuck in the hatch and fold in half. 2. Fold the keel up along the length of the boat so that the kayak is the same width as the bag. 3. Start at the bow and fold at the first set of dashes. Repeat 4 more times so that the kayak is rolled up like a spiral. 4. Tightly secure the straps to make it easier to fit the boat in the bag.
Punctures
Only something very sharp could pierce the hull. With 6 independent air chambers, it can still be paddled to shore in the event of one or two punctures. To preserve the life of your kayak, avoid contact with sharp edges (e.g., reefs, shells).
Advice from our team
Our Itiwit team is passionate about kayaking! It offers kayakers the following advice: Take the time to sit in the middle of the kayak to find your balance and adjust the footrests before you head out. Consider keeping a dry change of clothes in a waterproof bag in the stern of the kayak.
