PFC-free water repellency

The fabric is water-repellent: water beads off the surface. The fabric doesn’t soak up water and stays lightweight and breathable. Water repellency is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. It doesn’t use fluoride compounds.

Component waterproofing

The waterproofing of a fabric is measured in Schmerbers or mm of water (pressure of a water column). The higher this number, the more waterproof the fabric. This jacket is designed with a waterproof coating: this component resists 5,000 mm of water (Schmerbers) before washing (equivalent to the pressure exerted by a 5,000 mm column of water).

Preserving your jacket’s performance

To maintain water repellency, we recommend regular reactivation. Reactivate water repellency after three washes (remember to rinse thoroughly) or after using a dozen times in the rain. You can easily reactivate water repellency by warming the fabric: - in a dryer for 15 minutes (synthetics cycle) - with a hair dryer, moving back and forth from a distance of 20 cm, twice - with an iron on the delicate setting and with the steam function off

Fabric breathability

The fabric of this jacket is breathable: RET = 12. Component breathability is measured using thermal evaporative resistance (RET). RET refers to a fabric’s capacity to let perspiration evaporate. The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric. RET ≤ 6: very breathable fabric RET ≤ 12: breathable fabric RET ≤ 20: little or no breathability

This jacket is designed for hiking for 2 hours at a maximum pace of 5 km/h, with no elevation gain. During activity, how much you perspire depends on the intensity and duration of the effort.If the fabric’s breathability is not right for your type of activity, sweat condenses inside the jacket.You will feel damp,not because of rain soaking through the shell, but because of condensation caused by perspiration.Choose a waterproof jacket according to your level of physical activity.
