The principle of a self-inflating mattress
A self-inflating mattress consists of an airtight envelope glued to open cell foam where the air flows. When you unfold your mattress, it will fill with air, returning to its original shape and thickness (2.5 cm/1” for the MT 100 Mattress). You will have to partially inflate it by blowing to adjust the pressure to suit your needs. Self-inflation is more effective with some mattresses, depending on the thickness.
Easy inflation/deflation
When you use your mattress for the first time, roll it out flat and open the valve for 24 hours. After that, inflate it, close the valve, and leave it for another 24 hours. Now you can roll it back up to store it. While hiking, roll out your mattress as soon as you set up camp with the valve open to help it self-inflate. A self-inflating mattress inflates about 60% to 70% on its own. You will need to blow the rest up yourself, so you can choose your preferred level of inflation.
What is R-value?
R-value is a measure of thermal insulation. It indicates how much heat a material retains or lets escape. The higher the R-value, the better the mattress’s insulation. R-value can be increased: stack two mats to combine their R-values. All our mats are tested to ASTM F3340-18 standards.
What R-value do you need?
R-value from 0 to 1.9: Hot season (summer) R-value from 2 to 3: 2- or 3-season (spring-summer-fall) R-value from 3 to 4: 4-season R-value of 4.5 and higher: suitable for use all year round, including in freezing conditions.
Tips for a good sleep
Once you are lying down, remember to adjust the inflation pressure of the mattress by lightly pressing the “in” valve (open cap). A mattress that is too hard is often uncomfortable. Silicone patches on the top of the mat are designed to stop your sleeping bag from sliding.
How to repair a punctured mat
Inflatable mats are not puncture-proof, but they can be repaired. Take care when inflating and moving the mat. In the event of a problem, we recommend self-adhesive repair patches (ref. number: 8557113). For more information, visit our website.
