Your child is starting to surf in very small waves. She stays where she can touch the bottom and is supervised. She wants to have fun in the waves and enjoy new experiences. While learning to surf, she will wipe out in waves that are not at all powerful. We have designed swimwear to suit the body shape of young surfers for a secure fit in the waves.

Beginner surfer

The Boni 2-piece swimsuit has been designed for the budding surfer girl who wants to discover the fun of surfing. She likes a swimsuit that stays in place in the waves. 
The crop-top shape and cross-back straps stay secure in the waves so young surfers need not worry about their swimsuits. The cross-back provides excellent freedom of movement.

Our swimsuits are designed to stay in place in the waves. Our suits are tested by a panel of female surfers with different body types. They’re first tested in a pool under simulated surfing conditions, then worn during real sessions in the ocean.

At Decathlon, we design swimsuits for young surfers by taking into account their growth. That's why we systematically determine a kid’s size based on height, as age does not guarantee correct sizing. Kids of the same age can have completely different measurements. We recommend trying swimsuits on in-store when possible.

Swimsuits loosen slightly when wet, so it’s important to make sure your swimsuit provides adequate support and feels snug when you try it on. Keep in mind that the spandex in some of our swimsuits softens and relaxes in the water.

How to choose your rash guard (part 1)

1 hour: occasional practice. Choose either a loose fit (easy to put on, comfortable when dry) or a tight fit (comfortable when wet). Look for a loop system so you can fasten the rash guard to your shorts.
2 hours: regular practice. A rash guard with a drawstring and seamless underarm panels will improve fit and comfort in the water.
3 hours: intensive practice. A style with added warmth will let you stay out longer.

How to choose your rash guard (part 2)

This Olaian rash guard blocks at least 98% of UVB rays and 95% of UVA rays (UPF 50+), guaranteeing effective sun protection. Ideal for water sports, it can be worn in or out of the water.

UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) is a standardized measure of how much UV radiation can pass through a fabric.
A UPF 50+ rating means that the fabric blocks at least 98% of UVB rays and 95% of UVA rays.

What does UPF 50+ mean?

This rash guard reduces chafing against your surfboard or bodyboard. Its loose fit makes it easier to put on and more comfortable when dry. Choose the fitted 100 or 500 model if you prefer comfort when wet or plan to wear it under a wetsuit. Shown to reduce chafing during 1-hour sessions. If you plan to surf for longer, our 500 UV rash guard with seamless underarm panels is a better choice.

This rash guard has a front loop that attaches to the cord of your swim shorts to prevent it from riding up while you surf. Ideal for sessions of up to an hour. For longer sessions, we recommend choosing the 500 UV top, which also has a drawstring at the hips to keep it securely in place. A rash guard can cause irritation on the lower abdomen if it rides up.

This rash guard is recommended for use in water temperatures over 22°C. Air temperature may affect this recommendation. 
Our thermal models are made of fleece, neoprene, or both. Choose a neoprene model if you’ll be out in winds over 15 km/h.

Warmth and wind

Our UV T-shirts meet the needs of the most demanding surfers. They’re also compatible with many other water sports, including swimming, kitesurfing, windsurfing, wakeboarding, water skiing, and stand-up paddleboarding.

Suitable for multiple water sports

Young skin is very sensitive to the sun, particularly before age 3. UV rays are two to three times more harmful to children than to adults, so it’s essential that kids wear proper sun protection.

Kids and UV rays

This top is UV-resistant, but it does not provide total sun protection. Consider other factors, such as reflections (e.g., off sand or water), temperature, and time of day. Wearing this top is just one part of staying safe in the sun. You should also wear sunglasses and a hat or cap, apply sunscreen regularly, and drink plenty of water.

Fabric Composition:
Made of a swimsuit type fabric that is easy to get on/off without pulling at your hair. Finishing seams around the head to ensure that the cap remains in place.

Coated fabric:
A comfortable mesh cap. It is coated with a layer of silicone that reduces leaks and elasticity, and provides a close fit.

Silicone: 
Silicone is less comfortable but highly elastic to guarantee a close fit and prevent water from leaking into the cap.

How to choose your swimming cap material

There are several alternatives to standard swimming caps to suit everyone’s needs:

- brush caps: made of a highly stretch mesh.
- waffle stitch caps: made of latex, can be put on without pulling at your hair.
- volume or extra volume caps: the shape of these silicone caps provides more room for full hair.

- moulded or shell swim caps: these silicone caps are made for competitive swimming.

S, M, L, one size… which is the right size for me? 

The choice is quite simple: fabric and coated mesh caps are available in different sizes (S, M, L), while silicone caps are available in only one size, because they are highly elastic.

To choose the right size, follow our short guide to head sizes:
- XS: 50–52 cm (19.7–20.5 in). (available in the range for babies)
- S: 53–56 cm (20.9–22.0 in).
- M: 56–59 cm (22.0–23.2 in).
- L: 59–62 cm (23.2–24.4 in).
- One size: 53 to 62 cm (20.9–24.4 in).

How to choose the right swimming cap size

Did you know? There’s a right and a wrong way round to wear a swimming cap!

Swim caps have a central band from the front to the rear. The line of the fold of silicone caps (visible when the cap is flat) is in the same direction as that of the preceding caps.

Then join your hands and put them inside the cap. Stretch out your hands and fingers to create enough space to put the cap on.

At the front, the cap must be worn about one finger above your eye brows. 

How to put on your swimming cap

For two reasons. 

First, by wearing a swim cap, you protect the environment in which you are swimming. By retaining your hair, the cap protects the quality of the water and facilities by protecting the hygiene of the pool or waterway. 

Second, caps also protect you! Caps protect your hair against the harm caused by water, chlorine (or other treatments) and salt (or other pollutants).

Chlorinated water can be harmful to swimsuits which are used repeatedly in the swimming pool. Spandex, the component that gives swimsuits their softness and stretch, is sensitive to chlorine. If you swim in pools occasionally, this material is fine. For regular or intensive use, opt for a 100% polyester material.

Decathlon offers 3 Learning to Swim experiences: "Discovering the water", "Discovering swimming" and "Discovering underwater". Appropriate products are offered for each experience.
These armbands are part of the Discovering the water line.
Strong buoyancy at arm level helps beginners keep their head above the surface and gradually gain confidence while learning about water. The child can move in a more upright position by moving their legs.

Safety

The armbands have uni-directional air valves.
To inflate the armbands correctly, press the base of the valve to open it.
The valve closes mechanically in about 2 seconds. As such, it is normal for a bit of air to escape after inflation. This is why you must close the cap quickly.

Inflating the valves

There could be a valve malfunction. The valve is not closing normally. Too much air is escaping before the cap is closed. To replace it correctly, pinch the valve 2 or 3 times with your fingers, then inflate the product to the maximum and close the cap. The flap should reposition itself properly.

What should I do if the armbands deflate while I'm inflating it?

After use, rinse the armbands. Do not leave them in direct sunlight.

The appearance of fogging depends on several factors, the difference in temperature between the body and the water, humidity levels, etc. 
Wear due to friction is one of the main causes.
If your goggles fog up, dip your lenses in the water and a protective film will reform.
It is normal for the performance of the anti-fog coating to drop over time.

We provide an anti-fog marker that reactivates an ageing anti-fog treatment and makes your goggles last longer.

Fogging

The seal of the Swim goggles relies on the silicone skirts being correctly fitted to the shape of your face. 
Before purchase, we advise you to do the "suction" test without the strap. 
If the goggles stay on the face by themselves with a little suction, the product will be watertight during your swim. This also enables you to spot any areas of discomfort or annoyance when the model is on the face.
This model comes in sizes S (narrow faces) and L.

Choice of size

Swimming goggles that fit the shape of your face does not need to be over-tightened.

Goggles that are too tight can cause discomfort, leave marks and even create holes that let water get inside.

You don’t need to press against the lenses with your hands. A light suction effect is all you should need to keep water out.

The straps ideally should rest 2-3 cm above your ears.
This position will optimize the grip and comfort of the goggles.

How to adjust your goggles

We recommend: 
- rinsing your goggles (only if necessary) by simply dipping it in water
- not spraying the inner surface of the lenses with powerful jets of water.
- storing the goggles in their case after each session to prevent damage to the lenses (on the inner surface as there is an anti-fog coating and on the outer surface to prevent scratches)
- not exposing them to temperatures of over 60°C

The colour of your lenses should suit your swimming location and its lighting.
If you swim outdoors or in a swimming pool with bright lighting, it is preferable to use smoked lenses for greater comfort and reducing the glare.

If you’re outdoors in the evening or the pool is dark, use clear lenses.
