Water repellency is a fabric’s capacity to make water run off its surface without being absorbed. It prevents the fabric from soaking up water, keeping it lightweight, warm, and breathable. Water repellency is achieved by treating the fabric’s exterior. The garment should be retreated over its lifespan (recommended after each wash). Products for this purpose (spray or liquid) are available in our stores.

What is water repellency and how can you maintain it?

The inside fabric is brushed—a tried-and-tested method for retaining heat. The principle is simple: the knit component is designed to trap air, which acts as a natural insulator, keeping the body warm. Animal fur and feathers work on exactly the same principle. 

How can I be sure that these pants are warm enough for winter hiking?

Thermal comfort is a balance between warmth and breathability. If moisture accumulates, you will feel the cold when you’re less active. We designed these pants specifically for occasional, intense physical activities by adding a ventilation system in a micro-perforated fabric with side zippers at the thighs. A good balance between heat and ventilation for optimal thermal comfort.

The slim fit and stretchy fabric provide essential freedom of movement. The zipped pockets keep personal items secure (tissues, lip balm, keys, etc.).

Comfortable, practical winter hiking pants

In winter, it is important to protect yourself from moisture (snow, rain) and wind, because they can significantly cool the body. The windproof and water-repellent outer fabric was designed to handle all conditions. Waterproof panels at the seat and lower legs.
Gaiters with fastening hooks for the laces keep snow out.

How do these pants protect from outdoor conditions?

Whatever your cold-weather activity, use the three-layer technique:
Layer 1: A high-tech base layer to wick moisture away from the body and keep your skin dry.
 Layer 2: A fleece jacket or sweater to provide warmth and transfer moisture outward.
 Layer 3: A jacket to protect against the elements (rain, snow, and wind). 
To eliminate moisture, the whole outfit must be breathable.

How to dress properly for hiking in cold weather

Durability tests are conducted on selected components: resistance to rubbing and abrasion, and colourfastness. All these tests were conducted on the pant material.
